As I'm a guitar player myself, I'd never use any such, but I remember listening to some Steve Stevens sample CD which seemed to be pretty good (excellent recording quality and good useable riffs, played with a perfect feel).

Well, just ask a guitarist to record them for your tracks. There's a lot of them at KVR.

I can see in this context the point of sampling licks. There is a certain sounds you get from sampling old vinyl licks that is pretty much impossible to get yourself. I remember some hip hop producer commenting on this in an article last year, and its stop on. If you're doing a funky house track or something, and you're after a really grungy lick then it may pay you to sample it.
But 99.9% of the time its easier and more rewarding to do it yourself. Or if not, get someone else to do it for you.

Actually, there are a couple of guitar licks in the '101 Breaks' pack. Just dont ask me for a link, or I may up vanishing on night never to be seen again (the KVR SS are rutheless
).

A) The demos sound quite good.Bela D Media wrote:Check out Lyrical Distortion!!
B) You should get a faster server or allow for a download of the demos. I'm on a fast DSL line and it took around 4-5 minutes to get the first demo.
C) I think Solozabal asked for a more or less riff based library while yours are multisamples.
However, these samples sound good to my ears (and mind you, I'm a guitar player).
Generally I do however find it questionable that everybody seems to sample individual notes with distortion on them. When playing chords out of these notes, there's a fundamental difference. When you run a clean chord into an overdriven amplifier, you will hear LOADS of harmonic interaction, caused by the distortion enhancing certain overtones.
This won't happen when using individual allready distorted notes and playing a chord through them.
As a result, most sampled distorted guitars sound too clean, they're lacking of that "harmonic dirt".

Sascha,
I'll have Aaron Dirk (producer of LD1) swing by and answer some of your concerns. The server is slow right now to due the Giovani release. There are about 300 people per day downloading 24 bit audio demos.

I think that there is always going to be a degree of compromise when it comes to sampling instruments, the guitar especially (and the distorted guitar further more!).
I dont think it can be done to the extent that guitar players would expect. But Im open for being proven wrong! I drew up a protocol myself a while back - it involved grouping notes by 'fretboard position'. You could then use key switching to move from say V to VII position.
This way you could get authetic sounding scale 'blocks' and have moderately sized programs. The only reason Im telling you this is that I'd like to see a library organised this way (and I dont have time to do it myself
