Make a post detailing what – in your mind – you would like to hear, style type, mood type etc.

Get guys to post their tracks in your thread – then give them feedback so that others can start to see – and hear – what rocks your boat.

Better yet – post your tracks – and say – who feels this, who hears this? – can you relate? If so Post ya tracks.

true but i fail to see how that experiance is all that different from finding a cd i want to buy anyplace else.

personally, i buy the cds i do because of any of the following:

- im already into the artists other work
- i heard a track somewhere that i liked (previously or while i was at the site/shop)
- the cd/artist was recommended to me

so finding music i might like at a site filled with independent artists is really is no different to me than it is at a normal record shop filled with artists with "real" record deals. (especially since i dislike the vast majority of signed acts too.) it still comes down to previous experiance, random chance of hearing at track i dig, or recommendation.

The "featured artist" on the homepage of Soundclick is one of those pay-to-play deals. For $5 a month, your name will appear there. As for places to find good music, how about right here in the Music Cafe?

You do have to dig a little, but you'll be exposed to different kinds of music, from metal to experimental to dance to classical style movie scores, etc.

Soundclick is pretty bad, imo. The huge majority of the people on the forums there, such as the producer's forum, music gear, and music biz, are all wannabe rappers - there are a few people that know what they're doing, but the vast majority are just not very good, and the fact that they're making not-very-good hip hop is even worse. I stopped posting there in total disgust after the 500th "YO DO U USE AN MPC3000 TO MAKE TITE BEATZ? HOLLA BACK ILL TRADE U SOFTWARE" post.

CDBaby on the other hand I think has more built-in quality control because you need an actual investment to have your CD listed on the site. Doesn't mean everything is going to be good, of course, but it filters out the people who really aren't serious about getting there music out there. And CDbaby itself is certainly NOT out to scam artists. It's one of the best companies I've had the pleasure of dealing with, without question.

Soundclick is a f**king joke... look at the rap message board. You have all these stupid people trying to act gangsta, and it's looks ridiculous. Jesus Christ, just thinking about it makes me want to have an aneurysm.

There ARE good artists on SC, you just have to look for them. The charts are completely stupid, as many of the topic-ranked artists totally suck.

What does it matter if you think that the content on SoundClick isn't up to your standard - people have the right to put their music, no matter how poor on the there. If you don't like it, switch it off and don't listen to it.

The more these sites grow the less power record companies have! Good thing!

I have two pieces of music on there. They were put there so that fellow forum members could hear them. I have no intention of acquiring a record contract and never have. I'm a middle aged man with a good well paid job and I would like peopel to hear my music - end of story.

There's no way to gauge it, but I wonder what the correlation between artists that "suck" on sites (soundclick and otherwise) and artists that sucked to see in clubs and such. Though I hate the idea "suck", I'd rather it be artitst that didn't do it for me.

Before the internet that was it for the unsigned for the most part to showcase their material. Truly I saw many bands in clubs in Boston and southern New Hampshire during the 80's and 90's. Some where great and I wondered how they never made it big...others I wondered why they believed they should of been there in the first place.

Of course all so subjective to begin with...

I agree...110%...the only thing I would change when describing myself is I'm a retired middleaged man...
