FLstudio recently released documentation for their DAW host; according to the description, deep and thoughtful docs. While they've always had the online reference manual, I find it very shallow in scope; just the basics.

Does anyone own this yet? How does it fall in the spectrum of extreme enlightenment versus rehash of basic features?

Even if just a rehash, it might still be worth the bucks for the included "interview with GOL" -- IMO he has a way with words, and always interesting thoughts to convey.

I think the supplied documentation is quite good - what has been lacking is more tutorials, which they have addressed online.

I'll probably buy the book, but it's a bit expensive I think.

I'd like to own it because I know there are tons of tricks uncovered. But in the back of my head it seems like they're just selling a manual, which in my opinion should be included with the product. I'll pass for now.

no, this is much more than a manual, just look on the looptalk forums for some ideas of what people have said.

as for me, i love it, im learning about stuff i never realized..

however,

i know imageline needs to make a profit, but the price is definetly a bit steep.

even so, it was worth it for me :D

I bought the FL Studio Bible about a week ago and I've found it be very useful. Maz22: you've got a good point as they should be including a manual with FL Studio anyway, but if you take into account how much less expensive FL Studio is compared to the likes of Cubase, Sonar, Logic etc, then you can see that it makes sense to sell it separately.

The whole book runs to almost 360 pages and 290 of those are devoted to how to use FL Studio, so its packed with info. I've been using FL Studio for about 9 months now and have used the included tutorials and felt I knew it pretty well. However, The Bible has opened up a whole bunch of features and methods of working that I didn't know about, so I'd have to say I've found it great value for money already. A bit expensive? Perhaps, but unless you know FL Studio inside out, its worth the investment. Plus, you get the interview with the developers and the history of the product, a comprehensive glossary, all the keyboard shortcuts and even a sneak-peek at FL Studio 6! :)

Hint: I bought the wirebound version and its far better for staying open on your desk, so you can easily refer to it, than the full bound version.

I have been using FL for almost 2 yrs now and when I opened the book I started finding out stuff I never even came close to knwing.
For me it was worth every single cent. There is so much information there that I have not taken a look at Gol`s interview yet :hihi:
I highly recomend it.
Also I can take it to the pot and learn new stuff about my favorite host while away from it

The goal of the FL Bible has never been to make money, but to at least cover its cost. It's indeed a lot based on the help file included in FL, so it's handy for those who wanted/asked for a printed version of it.

As for the price, it's because the base price at Cafe Press is a little high, but I think (not sure) that they're investigating another way.

I thought the money making part of it was understood from the get go. :)
It was really expensive for IL to complie and set the whole thing up.
Anyway. The deal is that I think the book is really worth it.

C'mon folks would yah...read this FL COMES WITH A MANUAL, TRY THE HELP SECTION... furthermore jmc himself hs said many times it really is just the manual in book form with some extra tips..and of course poking fun at email sent too them.

I got burned with a book last year about Auditon that was only 30 bux. IL is making money off those who are too dense to open the help section of the software (they saw a weakness and exploited it)...you buy the software for 150 bux and for 40 more you can have a printed version of the manual...that's how it goes.

If FL has no manual, then pease explain too me for years why STAFF say when asked a question replies with RTFM (far from professional imo).

Just wonder what people who bought the book will do when 6.0 comes out? Or will 6.0 come out, perhaps the emergence of a book says this is where producer edition ends (and with it fewer updates for PE) Perhaps FL has realized that they need a more expensive feature packed product to compete with Sonar, Cubase, PT and Logic...perhaps the directors edition will be sprung upon us next...

No offense to IL at all, in fact I am in favor of the idea. I just see them stuck between a rock and a hard place..either king of the inexpensive software (face it many companies are standing in line to knock them off that pedastal) or they are gonna have to get past the 150 dollar stigmatism of so called "pro" users that FL isn't pro enough (which imo is pure crap)...

So when will 'Fruity Loops: The Movie' be released? I can hardly wait! I wonder which famous actor will play the lead role... :D

Duue IL put out the book because people like me asked for it for the longest time

Off course FL has its own on-line/F1 manual, but I can´t read that while on the bus or at the doctor`s.

Actually the book explains the features inherent to the way FL works.
Those will not change any time soon as they are part of the general workflow and features of FL. Newer stuf like automation clips are included as they were released with the last version, but there is enough material here to keep you busy until version 7 or so
Also I don`t think is geared towards power users. Mainly to beginners and intermediate users like me.
The new features will ost likely be plug ins and not new procdures or whatever so the on-line manual should be enough for those for a while.
Later.

Germ I'm not talking about the online manual...I'm just talking the basic manual period...and you know, that I know how many people do not read it. In fact if you do read it you should be able to understand how FL works...though for those who say that 40 bux is expensive (I understand that to be because of cafe press) that they should look at the poster (I believe 15 bux) that is the keyboard shortcuts...for those you dont even need a manual...just hover you cursor over a feature and if there is a shortcut it will tell you what it is.

But I disagree I dont think it's aimed at the intermediate users like you and me, but at those who just cant get their head around the help manual. I know I'll never be a "power user" I just use FL powerfully...and for that I do not need a book...the info is right there to begin with...;)

BTW Germ with AA's book I realized right away that I wanted my computer so I could check out what I read and put it to the test...I'm getting old...it might be a week before I remember what I wanted to checkout otherwise...
