Kim (esoundz) wrote:With regards to workflow, it's a bit more involved to use the complete loop and sliced hit versions of the same loop. This is because the complete loop versions in ST2 are collected together in banks, and there's no way to discover the name of an individual loop in the bank. That means if you want to go and find the sliced version, it might be a bit of hunting about before you find the right one.

Thanks for the details, Kim.
Hmmm, sounds like a little work to locate the loops. But I assume the naming of the sliced loops at least indicates the same tempo info and which ST2 loop bank it's from?
Would have been so easy to organise the naming, just name them
"Loop Bank Name"&"C1"
"Loop Bank Name"&"C#1"
"Loop Bank Name"&"D1"
...
and here you go, takes zero time to find them...

That's right. the sliced versions are organised into BPM folders. Most BPMs correspond to one ST2 instrument (which I've also been calling a "bank"). A few are split over two banks, and only 130BPM is split over three banks.

That's a good idea. Maybe something for a UFO update...

You mean to say, you got the capsule and were not using them? :-o
That's what gives you the "ultimate" control, isn't it?
But lets see how much more control we'll have when SR releases SquidBeats RMX. :D

P.S.: harmony, you got a PM from me

When you install the Groove Capsule and select the option to install sclipced programs, then the MIDI files will be installed too (because you need them to use the sliced programs, and you need the sliced programs to use the MIDI files).

Alternatively if you don't want to run the installer again, you can find the MIDI files directly on the CD and copy them to your hard drive yourself.

LOL,,, sure I've used them, but there's so much more to this Capsule than meets the eye. I haven't used it in this way. This is one versitile Capsule. One thing I have done is opened the aif files, so I can insert the loops directly into Project 5, which allows me to load them directly into Project 5's Groove Matrix. That has worked well, but if I could put MIDI grooves into the Matrix, I could then use these to trigger Sample Slices , and get so much more editing capabilies!!! It's not the first time I've discovered there was more functionality than I realized.

Actually, one of the other things I've been realizing is the power of being able to use midi files with the Studio Drums and Eclectic Drums Capsules. I got all the Capsules in one shot on the group buy, and every day I'm more glad I got in on that deal!! I love the Capsules. I'm still sort of hoping that the UFO will get SFZ support, so I can run them in Dimension,,, but I have enough to do in the mean time... lol.

There is a lot to be said about SS2 and Sampletank and the incredible variety of sounds you get with those libraries,,, but the Sonik Capsules give you soooooooo many more options, that they have value all of there own. Actually, MUCH more than I realized when I first bought them. Oh my,,, I'm learning stuff!!!

And Kim,, thanks for the advice!!! I'm gonna check that out,,, sounds like something I will definately want to use! So if I put these midi files in my Project 5 Patterns folder, they SHOULD show up on my Project 5 Loops/Ptns browser, right??? Boy would THAT be cool!!

That's where Groove Agent(GA) comes in handy - perfect tool IMHO.
One may discuss about whether GA has enough good sounds, the good thing is that it not very important how good GA's sounds are in one's own eyes, because 95% of it's fun is the GM MIDI output option. MIDI is routed out and back into a MIDI channel of one's choice. Load up SS2 or SS2, load a GM drum set and here you go, sounds exchanged.
And it's so easy to get GA to do complex changes from song part to song part. One of my all time high tools - I just wish they had more styles for my taste. For me to much "old stuff". But that is the case with may REX,MIDI, whatsoever libraries as well

No need to be sorry. You're 100% on topic with your question and your question helps to make this thread a great source of information about the Groove Capsule.
