Is there an EQ that does this?

Hi all, I am so impressed by the wealth of knowledge here so I know I will probably get a lead on what I am looking for in an EQ.

Does anyone know of a VST EQ that only, or very narrowly, effects the frequency range your are trying to EQ?

Example: I wish to EQ at 250Hz. I only want to effect that frequency explictly, or as close to the 250Hz area as possible and not effect the very near before and after frequencies.

Most EQs effect a very broad range in the area you are trying to EQ, making a drastic rise or fall in volume for your whole composition.

I know I am asking for a pretty strict range and am probably asking for the impossible. I would expect that something like this would be costly, but in my opinion, would be worth it.

Anyone know of an EQ that does as I explained above?

Thanks all,
DennisT

you are looking for an fft-filter... ;-) :-)

A lot of them do.After you found your frequency, just use your Q setting "BW Bandwidth adjustment".

Usually a precise parametric eq with a high q value can influence a quite narrow ferq range.
Take in mind that if you wanna eq *just* 250hz the Fourier law tells us you'll modify *just* the amplitude of a *pure sine wave* with that specified frequency.
IMO this can hardly be called an eq process, it's just a rough application of the FastFourierTransform formula.
Be also aware that FFT-based effect usually are heavy on cpu and add a noticeable lag to audio.

anyway - there's still a use for it - so what's wrong with him asking for it?

Try Samplitude's FFT-filter or the FreeEqBoy to get an idea of what's possible. ;-)

they're all just normal (expensive) eq's...

no jens nothing wrong in fact...Just wanted to let him aware of it
Then he decides...eq or fft, just sound matters.

True some are expensive, but you get what you pay for. Isn't life wonderful.

ah I see... :-) - his post looks though as if he's got some experience at dealing with normal eq's... :-)

Thank you Jens - saved me the trouble.

Nyquist EQ allows for a very narrow range to be cut/boosted. And it's free.

And I honestly cannot figure out how to use it. :D
