I actually understand that the book costs as much as it does and that IL doesn't make money off it - I asked for that book a long time ago because I like to have printed material available (easier to follow step by step instructions or look something up without taking up screen estate).

But it still is an expensive guide when you factor in shipping etc.

I have the Audition! Ignite book and it's okay, but I am really looking forward to the Absynth 3 DVD which is released tomorrow. To me, tutorials on a DVD is more interesting...

I noticed the new online tutorials from IL and they are a Good Thing but a more in depth tutorial would be nice.

As for newbies - I have owned FL Studio since version 3.x and still don't feel at all "at home" in FLS. I love the program but I struggle with it. Ableton Live was much more intuitive. But I am only talking for myself, of course.

I got burned with a book last year about Auditon that was only 30 bux. IL is making money off those who are too dense to open the help section of the software (they saw a weakness and exploited it)...you buy the software for 150 bux and for 40 more you can have a printed version of the manual...that's how it goes.

If FL has no manual, then pease explain too me for years why STAFF say when asked a question replies with RTFM (far from professional imo).

Duue IL put out the book because people like me asked for it for the longest time

Off course FL has its own on-line/F1 manual, but I can´t read that while on the bus or at the doctor`s.

Just wonder what people who bought the book will do when 6.0 comes out? Or will 6.0 come out, perhaps the emergence of a book says this is where producer edition ends (and with it fewer updates for PE) Perhaps FL has realized that they need a more expensive feature packed product to compete with Sonar, Cubase, PT and Logic...perhaps the directors edition will be sprung upon us next...

Actually the book explains the features inherent to the way FL works.
Those will not change any time soon as they are part of the general workflow and features of FL. Newer stuf like automation clips are included as they were released with the last version, but there is enough material here to keep you busy until version 7 or so
Also I don`t think is geared towards power users. Mainly to beginners and intermediate users like me.
The new features will ost likely be plug ins and not new procdures or whatever so the on-line manual should be enough for those for a while.

Germ I'm not talking about the online manual...I'm just talking the basic manual period...and you know, that I know how many people do not read it. In fact if you do read it you should be able to understand how FL works...though for those who say that 40 bux is expensive (I understand that to be because of cafe press) that they should look at the poster (I believe 15 bux) that is the keyboard shortcuts...for those you dont even need a manual...just hover you cursor over a feature and if there is a shortcut it will tell you what it is.

But I disagree I dont think it's aimed at the intermediate users like you and me, but at those who just cant get their head around the help manual. I know I'll never be a "power user" I just use FL powerfully...and for that I do not need a book...the info is right there to begin with...

I learn my way around FLS (since v3.0 era) by just sitting in front of my computer and drive in!

You will never learn any faster unless you make to free time to studying your host.

I dont have ignite...I have using AA 1.5...tbh I learned more helping people use FL then I think I could of by any other method...I can read a book and know it, but that doesn't mean I understand it (even if I just read it) research (the help file in this case),practicle application and discovery derived from the first two help me understand...

Yes, I agree $40 is kinda expensive, but if I can learn my all-time favorite host inside-out it's worth the $$$ definitely. I think FL Studio is absolutely astounding and anything I can do to help promote it is worth every penny to me.

first off everyone who knows me including jmc and gol know I promote FL to the fullest...hell I bought a secong copy for my son...but just dont be too disapointed if when you're done reading the book you dont know FL inside out...that describes my feelings a year ago about AA. However it will make a handy reference when something comes up...that is until you realize it's in the other room and the same answers are on your machine. I think it's great for those who feel it will help, I think it's great for IL, especially the fact that jmc was so straight forward about what it contained....not like the AA book (not by adobe btw)...but I bet many collect dust...

Does anyone own this yet? How does it fall in the spectrum of extreme enlightenment versus rehash of basic features?

It falls short of "extremely enlightening" and while it does serve as a bit better tutorial than the manual, it still doesn't carry much information beyond what's in the manual, for the most part. That said, I still think it's worth owning.

I had one question that was not answered by the manual or the bible, how to get the MIDI OUT plugin to respond to prog change messages from a controller? It passes prog change messages to the synth, but it doesn't seem to do feedback, and there does not seem to be a way to do patch mapping (say, I want the controller's "switch to GM-1-acoustic piano" to send some other arbitrary bank and patch message to the synth -- and have the MIDI-OUT generator display it.

This might be easy, or it might not be possible, but I could not figure out which (or how) from the bible, the manual, or searching looptalk.


Just an example of the kind of thing *I* would consider "extremely enlightening".
