Perhaps they'll let the cat out of the bag at summer Namm - (July sometime I think). I'm speculating they've gone further with enhancements than the initial press release stated and so this would be a good place to shout about it

Yeah, there are some nice surprises for SampleTank users for sure. Patience will be well worth it in this case.

Of course! I am one of the main people who begged for them! I'll leak a few features here and there. Here's a new one. How about zone-level panning finally! So you can put your drums wherever you want in the stereo field in just one part. Ahhhhhhh.olepro wrote:Thanks Squids

My favorite new feature has to be the updated engines. The new controls on Stretch are just FANTASTIC fun! More options to twist the sound as well as get accurate results more often. It is also more efficient on the CPU!!!! Imagine that! It is more complex yet more efficient. You gotta love that! Sorry to get you guys pumped on this (I still can't believe it is a free update). You'll have to just be patient. Miroslav will be coming first.

By the way, i wrote to IK multimedia long time ago about making af master effect slot in sampletank where you can make effect send from the 16 instruments/midi channels or from the instrument zones and then make it possible to compress snare and bassdrum or just send the snare to a reverb without affecting the other drums.
We could that way spare a good amount of cpu just using one reverb for all the instruments.
I allso let them know the idea to be able to route zones to the different sampletank outputs.
Another way to overcome missing master fx slot routing.
Hope they have listent to me

ST2.1 will have 16 stereo output channels, so you can have each part on its own mixer channel in your host. That way you can get much more flexible with mixing.olepro wrote:By the way, i wrote to IK multimedia long time ago about making af master effect slot in sampletank where you can make effect send from the 16 instruments/midi channels or from the instrument zones and then make it possible to compress snare and bassdrum or just send the snare to a reverb without affecting the other drums.

If you get Sonik Capsule: Studio Drums then you can access the individual kit elements (kick, snare, hats, toms, and cymbals) as separate ST2 instruments. That way you can apply different ST2 effects (such as eq/compression) to different kit elements. You can also route the kit elements to their own output channels, so you can mix them like you would a recorded drum kit.

Hi
Is the interface any better/bigger? does it support mouse scroll wheels? is there any way of avoiding clicking the TINY little trianges that are impossible to see over a resolution of 1024? are the samples more consistent in volume? is there a way of setting the volume to always be at 127, instead of the mysterious 64 value?
thanks

Higher resolution = smaller GUI elements. If you have trouble reading or using the interface, perhaps you need a bigger screen? The ST2 interface is already huge, with heaps of functionality packed in. If you wanted bigger UI controls, either the interface would have to be even BIGGER, or would have to incorporate more pages and modes. Personally, I don't like either of those options. I think IK has made the right decision. The Beatsmith wrote:Is the interface any better/bigger? is there any way of avoiding clicking the TINY little trianges that are impossible to see over a resolution of 1024?
Not public knowledge, but I assure you that mouse wheel support is a popular request. The Beatsmith wrote: does it support mouse scroll wheels?
The new 2.1 sound set is being totally renewed, and I expect the volumes to be consistent. The Beatsmith wrote:are the samples more consistent in volume?
Easiest way is to set them once, and save it as an "init" combi, or save it like that in your sequencer's start-up project. The Beatsmith wrote:is there a way of setting the volume to always be at 127, instead of the mysterious 64 value?
Hope that helps.

Thanks for all your answers
Just would still like to say that i think the browser section is too small and fiddley - clicking away at tiny triangles isn't my idea of fun. i have a 2 x 17inch LG tft's, both @ 1280x1024, and i have 20/20, and the screen isn't very far away. Other users on osxaudio.com have expressed similar concerns about the gui... it's just frustrating as hell. i hope if mouse scroll support is included, then things would be a little easier to use.
One thing that would help, and how i was intuitively expecting the gui to work - would be if you could double click the word (ie the sound catagory) or *line* that the triangle is on, and this would collapse that triangle/catagory. Similar to how in OSX for example, in the finder, you don't have to double click ONLY on the folder - anywhere in the finder on the same 'line' as that folder selects it, and double clicking opens it. Currently in ST 2XL, double clicking is exactly the same as single clicking - it just selects that file/catagory.
But, I can't wait for the new soundset, i was disappointed with the sounds in 2.1. In fact to be honest, i am disappointed with the entire ST 2XL package - but 2.1 sounds like it's shaping up to be really good.
Thanks again for your help
Edd

What kind of sounds are you interested in? Depending on what you want, Sonik Synth 2 might have a lot of what you're looking for.The Beatsmith wrote:But, I can't wait for the new soundset, i was disappointed with the sounds in 2.1. I am hopeful that 2.1 will not be a disappointment to us existing 2XL users. Given that it will be a free update to many of us, I'd say it would be hard for it to be anything less than a well received upgrade
However, in terms of attracting new users, I do think Sampletank is now up against some really stiff competition in the form of Kontakt 2. So 2.1 will have to be pretty special indeed
