Not sure if anyoneh has posted this before, but should you go looking for a thoroughly excellent dictionary on audio related terminology, I highly recommend the Dilettante's Dictionary, written by Sandy Lerner, the founder of Cisco Systems.

that's a keeper...thanx...;)
The highest form of knowledge is empathy, for it requires us to suspend our egos and live in another's world. It requires profound, purpose‐larger‐than‐the‐self kind of understanding.

Very nice free source. Thanks very much.

I'm impressed with the scope of the thing. So much detail on several levels. A lot of similar resources only approach the material from one angle (ie math theory, acoustics, gear bits, etc) but this thing has a lot of the bases covered.

Thanks for the heads up Shamann!

Never heard of this before, but it is just what I was looking for since a long time. Thanks, mate. Will go on reading now.
( The word "dilettant", used in german too, always attracts me :hihi: by the way)

Check out the def of kirsch, speaking of bases covered.

....for example it's the best and shortest description of "envelope follower" I ever saw. Just one example of many.

Further to bases covered:
base : In magnetic recording tape, the thin ribbon of polyester or other plastic material to which the oxide and back coating are applied, measured in mils. For example, the base of most professional recording tape is 1.42 mils thick.

This truly is a great dictionary. As someone else said, most dictionaries cover from a single angle. This one really does have everything. Every word I could throw at it was found, and with details and sometimes examples.

Much thanks for the link!

Baxandall, Thiel-Small, Emitter, Bode plot, doublet, tractrix.

It's a good link but hardly comprehensive.
