Who can sing? POLL

This poll is inspired by a recent thread by HitMan – here http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=93199

It seems to me the bulk of all musicians (electronic (in a basement/bedroom to live/stage) cannot sing (or those that think they can can’t and those that can’t actually can )

What defines a signer (is it anyone who can sing a range of more than one octave in tune? ) or is a signer something else (does not matter the fact they are in tune or not, they have a character to their voice that can impart feeling)

I don't think I'm agreat singer if you refer to having a great power of voice and control over your pitch and such.

However, I think singing may be much more than that: I'm more interested in the texture of voice and the nuances that can be expressed by whispering and screaming, by playing with your voice, etc.

Indeed origami, I think given the amount of tracks that can sound pretty similar – adding vocals gives a much needed – uniqueness - that music nowadays needs more and more to break away from ‘other’ tracks in the same ‘zone’- especially if you just rely on synthesis and not fx or live instruments – voice is the most expressive instrument available - is this a way off the wall comment to make?

Maybe the bulk of artists are just plain scared of their own voice – or – maybe its too personal?

I bet there are tons and tons of artists who just wish they could sing – I put it to them – any sound is better than none at all from your own vocal cords - they add a texture - others would find hard to emulate. It will also start to break you free from the pack imo.

With all these synths that can use samples too - put your recordings into them and start to create something - different - even if you think you cannot sing - got to be worth a go - even mini sections in a track. Even a small chorus, a mini verse, something that brings a personal tone to the song – something that will set your tune apart from others.

I can sing better than a huge majority of professional singers today. I just pretend to sing badly as an artistic choice.

I used to sing in a punk/alternative band in high school, and did vocals for electro/industrial solo project (yes, clean vocals) for some years. Then I got old and addicted to cigerettes and booze and I can't anymore.

With enough post-processing, I understand I don't sound TOO awful. My style (if you want to call it that) is pretty close to spoken-word, though!

Three types of guys will select the fish option - one those who can sing and have sung and just clicked it for the sake of it - then there are those who think its too personal and grimace at the whole thread - then there are those who think synths are better than anything.

I have sung when younger, I gave up when someone told me it sounded like I had been castrated – I got all self aware and could not sing before an audience again after it.

Though, that’s in front of an audience – not too sure how posting stuff up on the net would translate, not sung properly in ages – the hitman thread got me thinking about it again.
