I knew it :D ;)

I think that is the number one reason artists don’t sing – I wonder though is it possible to sing (and not like your own voice) but actually have others who hear you, do like it.

Does singing need 100% confidence in your own voice to be able to sing?

I nearly missed this as the thread moved to page two, I guess you could say you are now 100% confident as a singer?

The highest form of knowledge is empathy, for it requires us to suspend our egos and live in another's world. It requires profound, purpose‐larger‐than‐the‐self kind of understanding.

I think its natural not to like the sound of your own voice when you hear it played back. I'm sure that we are all our own worst critics.

Abso-f**king-lutely. Confidence is the no.1 thing a singer needs.

I can sing, as my band-mates will vouch, but I choose not to [except at sound-check].

Hyup, you need confidence. Liquid or otherwise! ;)

I sing, but treat it as any other instrument: I'm familiar with my shortcomings and play to my strengths. I'll never front a band, but I can write a part that fits just right in my own tunes.

EDIT: Forgot to mention, songs in the signature below. But most of you knew that. ;)

Certainly not. I can sing on pitch and sight sing ok, and I'm comfortable singing in a choir, but solo... not yet. I sang a duet once and it was pretty scary. Also, I don't really have enough experience to really express myself with singing. Plus, I havn't been in a choir for like 6 months, so I'm probably rusty.

Yep! this is the problem, I am 10 % short of confident. this and I don't like my own voice

I think it's all in the mind - the trick is being able to switch on the confidence at the right moment.
