I think the best free host is Psycle at; http://psycle.pastnotecut.org/portal.ph ... 41bc6e2e1a

This essentialy what its about, the only skin I could find to download quickly, its not as pretty, here it is;

Its a tracker, but as you can see above you can route your effects and instruments any way you like to, I think, to a 6 channel mixer.

Go back to Kristal by Kreatives. It's free, it does VST effects and, if you use the free CTAF MultiFXVST chainer with Kristal then poof! Kristal works with VSTi instruments too.

If you need a simpler host (no multitracking) use (free) TobyBear's MiniHost.

Imagine if you could line Psycle and Kristal or Audacity, now that would be intresting. You can link Psycle to another host, and disregard its VSTi section.

Nothing really comes close to eXT, it's an absolute bargain, and it's more than just a host. The community is alive and helpful and developer is enthusiastic ( and I think proud for a reason) about his product.

There is a demo, if you get past the first impression (some say it feels a bit complex, it's because of the degree of freedom) I'm quite confident you'll understand what the fuzz is all about.

I see this answer alot & I have to ask, have any of you eXT peeps tried Console? If so whats the verdict? See very few threads on that host.

Well, I think eXT is good too, its on my wish list, and probably soon.

Post

eXT is clearly more flexible than Console, and also includes a sequencer and a sampler.

One advantage Console has over eXT, it can host DX/DXi plugins, eXT cannot, and in the short term will not host DXi...

I like Energy XT for its open design BUT with Kristal it's a more familiar GUI layout, there's the support forum and most important you can save your work in the free version. I look forward to Energy AND Kristal getting ReWire in some future versions, that'd be cool.

1. re gui: http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic ... 93&start=0
(scroll down and look at the screenshots)

2. re support forum: http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=36

3. re saving: you can save with the eXT-demo, you just can't load it until you're registered.
That you can save with the 'free-version' of Kristal isn't really any wonder as it is the only version.

;-) :-)

Ive demoed both, please tell me why eXT is clearly more flexible. The sequencer/sampler features dont interest me, the modular routing and flexible control aspects do.

Jens, have you seen the new editor style in Podium? I like it! :)
