I really hope this is just temporary, I for one think you're a good guy so I hope you're back soon...Hunter wrote:yeah I've been organising my license keys from my emails and putting everything into tidy foldersHink wrote:I haven't read all the responses (you lost me with the porn) but have given this some thought...so what would I download? Nothing, I'm the kinda guy if I wasn't sure if I was gonna be able to get online for a while I would spend more time contacting companies to get hard copies, backing up reg keys, saving passwords and such for what I have. I would hate to get use to something, lose it and not be able to get it back...

Still got plenty time to get shitloads of free goodness though
If you had 2 more weeks of internet what would you download?

I would download whatever freebies I could lay my hands on. From memory...
sf2midi.com
dorumalaia.com
soundfont.it
the sfz format description page at rgcaudio.com, so I can create my own soundfonts
audacity
whatever samples are available at audioshots
the samples from akaipro
all the KVR favorite free VSTi's and effects
all the VSTi's and effects available at the sites of the KVR favorites' developers
all the patches at KVR and patcharena for all the VSTi's I just downloaded
the samples by realfeel (search KVR for more info)
whatever samples I can found from the "Great KVR Sample Site List" (see the "samples" section)
viena with one "n"
the G-town samples
cygwin (only if you are a Unix fiend like me, who cannot live without a Bourne Shell and the "vi" editor)
CSound, PureData, AudioMulch, SynthEdit (without the 'net, I would have time to learn to use them)
Whatever patches/ config files/ tutorials I could find for the above
some books from the Gutenberg project (not if you don't want to be distracted, though)
the minimoog and dx7 manuals in PDF format, just for the heck of it
in extremis: Google for "free soundfont" and "free samples"
Not free:
Tracktion download-only version
some sample sets from sonicimplants and/or samplecraze
couple boxes of senseo coffee pods from Amazon
Well, I hope this helps. Good luck!

Dude, you went about it all wrong. The only thing you should feel guilty about is hogging all the porn up for yourself . . . You're supposed to get your beautiful girlfriend into downloading porn off the internet WITH you . . . then there's no guilt. Share the naughtiness! Even couples needa a hobby they can pursue together!Hunter wrote:I was actually left with a strange and unusual feeling of moral well beingHink wrote:

I would seriously ask Aki Kaurismäki (letting him know you'll be off internet soon, and exaggerating your situation quite a bit, say, "I have to leave for Iceland and don't want to hear BJORK IS GOD a million times in a week even if I like her music, so I NEED sth. I can put into my laptop there, please HELP!!!) about putting some old films of his onto a ftp-server and letting me download some. Aaahhh....those masterpieces...inspiring to all true musicians, by the way...
For example I have seen ARIEL once and would give much to see more of old and unknown films of him
.
I didn't read through the whole thread, so surely some may have said "fine free sounds" like Splendid piano, mmjalmstroem (or a kind of similar name)-sf2, and Maestro grand (900MB) and so on.
Then I would get hold of any strange samples I could get hold of for putting into Cameleon.
Then I would visit www.lescatole.de for visiting the website of my girlfriend which is not finished yet. But sorry, mate, no pictures of her, maybe the best looking dschöörrrrrmän girl ever...so go for Kaurismäki-films and tell me about it later...

If you're going to be offline and don't already have a web-based account I would worry about continuity first. Set up a web based account (Yahoo, Gmail, etc), forward all your important info from your current account (contacts, stored licenses, etc), and get a portable drive (USB keychain drive, Firewire/USB-based external drive, etc) so you can still hit an Internet cafe and download updates and do license-related stuff. Also be sure to change all registrations to reflect your new email address. With a portable drive you can live without a home intarweb connection and still stay up to date.

But seriously, I think that LBN has the best advice there - keep up to date with a USB portable drive keyring thing, and get a good web-based email address
