Multiband distortion with modulatable bands?

Hey

I think I already know the answer to this one, but is there a multiband distortion where each band's width or frequency can be modulated by internal LFOs?

I already know that DeltaForce, Predatohm, Quadrafuzz and probably Trash don't. Have I missed one that does, or am I gonna to have start playing with some midi LFOs. :? :-o

You could do this type of thing in some modular environments but I have no Idea about plugs with internal stuffs. but yeah.

Minion is a free VST FX, it does filter-distortion-LFO tricks, not sure it is exactly what you want. ... it doesn't do true bandsplitting but thats a good thought for an update :)

@funkadil: That's pretty much my fall back position.

@bitcrusher: Nah, not really what I'm after, but I must to have a play. Nice plug.

None come to mind. The TinyFX suite was intended to have this function once each effect was able to communicate. There's a frequency splitter and distortion plugin already, and there was going to be an LFO/modulation plugin to control parameters. Development is sadly on hold at the moment.

Excluding what's been mentioned already, only other option might be a multieffect similar to Luxonix's LFX-1310, which has a 3-band EQ and distortion effects, but I can't remember if it has independent LFOs.

I haven't tried it in along time, but maybe SpinAudio's FX Designer? Shot in the dark, can't rightly remember filter types and and whether distortion is one of the effects.

Cheers,
Steve

Use NicFit's LFO plug to drive modulation with em.

Just downloaded the Predatohm standalone. Hadn't tried in a long time, but most shocking to me is that there doesn't appear to be any LFOs on anything. I always thought OhmForce put an LFO anywhere they could fit one.

Not what you're after, but the only distortion effect I can think of with lots of modulation is helium's modtortion, available in his Alte pack. May be buggy, as I don't read German and gather that these are old plugins that are no longer being revised.

Sure, lots of workarounds, but that's not internal LFOs re: first post :P

Yeah, it's really strange and surprising that Predatohm hasn't got any LFOs. Not OhmForce's style at all.

Unfortunately most of the suggestions don't really have one thing or another. Modtortion looks interesting I'll have to DL when I get home. Even translated by Google it's described as a 'A modulating Verzerrer'. It seems Verzerrer is a german word for distortion, that strangly doesn't translate into english.

Thanks Sicklecell666 NicFit's LFO plug is definately one of my choices for a workaround.

Thanks guys.

Trash has it all! How come you think that it does not have it?

Well I wasn't sure. I've read a few reviews. Looked at izotope's site. And there appears to be no modulation of the bands. I'll DL the demo and have a look. Thanks

QuantumFX from DB.

It's a fully modular FX suite, so you can patch up your own band splits and internally modulated distortion. There isn't a preset as such for what you want, but it wouldn't be too difficult to do if you started with one of the presets and repatched it. And the bonus is that you could have patches with different types of distortion - use the overdrive or the valve sim or waveshapers or a mixture of them. pretty well anything can be modulated by anything. You could make a patch identical to Quadrafuzz but slot in your own LFOs.

Try the demo - there's a preset with a single band modulated overdrive that is very sweet - it'll give you a taste of what it can do. Then multiply by several independent bands. And it's only a short hop from making a modulated bandsplit distortion to expanding the patch to include things like reverbs, cabinet sims, delays etc all independent to each band (it would take up a fair bit of CPU, but you can make FX that no out-of-the-box FX suite can do). Truly.

And Version 2 is out some time soon, so it's likely to be even better.

But...there's a bit of a learning curve - not huge, but you do need to read the manual to make the more esoteric type FX it's capable of.

Nice idea!

did you have a look at the spectrumworx?

I dont know if it can do it, just ordered it myself.
So not much experinece yet.

but it´s a multi/modular-FX rack.

That is a great idea! :hyper: And as you pointed out, so much potential. I wish I had time to look at all this, something you the weekend I think. I'll be interested to see what the the distortions of QFx sound like.

Spectrumworx looks interesting, shame it hasn't got distotion.

I probably still take up Sickle's idea as I would love to have Delta Force's mid band sweeping with that great bitcrusher.
