For me, the ideal is having Miroslav AND EWQLSO Gold. I also have GPO but GPO lives in it's own universe and is not easily compatible with the other libraries (though it can be done, just takes more time).

So GOLD and Miroslav Philharmonik sound like they are made to go with each other.

Having more choices from a timbral aspect is always better. Thats why I passed on the PRO upgrade for Gold, as it offers more textures but not different timbres for the already existing instruments (Qlegato notwithstanding :) ). I like to contrast agression with lushness in my music, always been tough to pull off before.

I owned the original Miroslav Vitous library, bought back when I was still making money from my music. Now that I am 'just' a hobbyist, I can't justify even the $1500 half-price for Platinum to get all those close mic'd sections and solos.

I always liked the Vitous lushness though a lot of people complained about the little crescendi built-in to most samples and sections. I think it makes for what they call a "well-rounded tone" in conservatories. This is musical to my ears.

I hated AO for it's dead straight playing. The samples are so lifeless! :( The phrases are much better.

But some people just want a stagnant tone from the orchestral instruments. I would use a timbre like that maybe 10 times in my life. :?

Now people are saying they don't like GOLD because it has built-in ambience and release trails.

It all reminds me of the criticisms when the Vitous library came out. It was 'too' musical! :hihi:

Now GOLD is 'too' ambient. :hihi:

Remember, it's all about choices. So get Both! :D

The regular preorder is listed at $449, but regular eSoundz customers will get it for less, depending on your member level. :)

Thanks Kim.
I logged in and had a look and I have to say I'm very happy with the price I'll be getting.

I will be sure to get this before the end of August.

Thanks guys - you know how to make me feel like a valued customer.

We made esoundz to be more like a club (for sound junkies! ;) ). So, the more you get the better deals you get in the future and it supports your habit. Hey, if it was something BAD for you like fast food or drugs then this would be terrible. But, inspiring sounds to make music with? There aren't too many addictions as healthy and positive as that. If more people in the world cared about being inspired to create music we'd be in a more interesting and peaceful society. (For more on this subject, please read my book "How to turn a sales pitch into a philosophical discussion on life" ;)

Wow,, you don't know how many hours I spent laboring the decision,,,, on one hand, I could get into heroin, on the other, sounds. Hmmmmmmm I chose the one that didn't involve needles,,, ick. LOL

You know Squids, I think you really have sort of set up a cool club. I did 22 years at a country club, and it was a little like this,,, epointz are like a blind bogey thing,,, lol. You do a great job of keeping things fun, and have a knack for getting us excited about things,,, like a good golf pro does. There is no question that your accessability is a large factor in building the sort of loyalty you're getting. It's cool to know that someone who rubs elbows with the likes of Danny Gottleib, Rick Wakeman, and Jon Anderson, and so many others, will take the time to answer anyones questions here.

Can you tell us a little about the pianos soundz that will be included in Philharmonik??

Post

Hi Squids, I don't want to sound lie I am moaning but I guess I am. There does not appear to be a big difference between the price I can purchase the full version of Philarmonik and the crossgrade price.

I only owned the orchestral samples from the Vitous but I am sure Miroslav took the same approach to the choir.

From the demo it sounds like the VOTA that East-West has but not nearly as extensive as the their new QLSC or as diversified as the SOV package.

But hey, it's included for no extra charge!

I do wonder about the Piano and Cathedral Organ. From guessing, I'd say it's not going to replace the dedicated pianos of Giga and the others.

I would say it's probably ambient so it blends in with the orchestra, not for a concerto setting.

We'll see.

Some answers.

1. I like the esoundz club too.
2. I am not good at golf (except the put-put gooney golf and for that matter I am also better at table tennis than tennis tennis ;) )
3. I don't actually rub elbows because they may get the wrong idea and think I am some cheap slut they can take advantage of. :D
4. I make myself available for the benefit of the company and how people feel about us but also because I enjoy it. I like talking to musicians and I like to help. I can't do it as much one on one but since these posts are read by multiple people who get something out of them (even if it is just a laugh or two- I like to make people think or laugh or even think about laughing) I feel like it is a valuable use of my time. That could be debatable but when people show their appreciation then it is clear that it is worth it.

5. Crossgrade price vs. full version price. Trust me there wasn't even going to BE any discount at all because you're mainly paying for the library no matter how you slice it (after all we are taking a $4,000 collection and bringing it to you for so much less AND adding in gigs of additional material plus, uh, a very nice additional thing as well that isn't even announced yet). This is even just something that will be offered for a little while as a courtesy to SampleTank 2 L and XL users so take advantage of it! Even if it saves you an extra $50-70 it is a major BONUS just for being a SampleTank 2 user I think. That was the purpose of it. Think glass half FULL for getting ANY discount and you'll be a lot happier. ;)

6. The grand piano in Philharmonik is outstanding and I'd put it up against a lot of dedicated pianos out there. It's almost too good to be in there in my opinion because people probably aren't thinking they are getting an amazing Steinway D in there as well but they are.

7. The cathedral organ is fantastic and beautiful. Both have a good balance of ambience in my opinion and mix nicely with the orchestra.

8. The choirs are the ones from his $799 Classical Choirs collection. It sure is nice getting all of that thrown in for free isn't it? We thought peopole would like that. It's one more reason for people to just go ahead and pre-order Miroslav Philharmonik on www.esoundz.com right now! (sales pitch needed, sorry! We appreciate your support!)

There's even more material that isn't released in Philharmonik but will come out later as it is worked on. All kinds of choral and orchestral material in various states of being finished such as raw sessions, edited files and some prototype maps of things. It is kind of fun going through it all because you find treasures in there. It'll take a while but this just the beginning of what you'll see now that we own the full rights to all of the Miroslav orchestral and choir archives. The released libraries were less than 1/10 of what actually existed in material. I guess he got side-tracked by this little thing called "making music"!!!! Lucky him! Some day maybe I'll have some time to enjoy doing that. ;)

You make it feel so much more worthwhile being along for the ride Squids.

I think I would have found Miro impossible to resist at a much higher price.

I take it the Steinway D will perform better that "The One" on SS2. That would be good news because I really like "The One" so I can imagine I'll be over the moon about something that's even better.

I often think about the start of my computer music making endeavours and think how stupid I was to invest money in VSTi synths because I realised down the track that it wasn't really where I was going with my music.

Then I cursed myself for not saving up money for GigaSampler (at the time) and expensive samplesets. When Sampletank first came out I wasn't really that impressed, but then this company that I hadn't heard of before (sorry Squids) came onto the scene with something called SonicSynth.

SS1 and SS2 later....I just can't believe how much one company that sells samples has captured my attention so completely. Everything that comes out screams quality and almost unbelievably it just keeps getting better and better.

It seems now like SonicSynth was almost a cautious foray into a new market and once it was established that it was bound for success, SR decided to unleash their long term strategy on us all with SS2, Studio and Miro and God knows what else that's careering towards us like a juggernaut in the future.

No Squids - thank YOU.

Without your presence here, I may have missed all of this, because it was you who tipped me off about SonicSynth, it was your words that convinced me to part with my cash and I certainly haven't been sorry.

Yeah, I'm also really digging James Newton Howard's soundtrack for Batman Begins.

Well, if anyone has Kontakt2 then they also have some nice VSL type sounds. Add in Gold and then Miroslav and it sounds like you'll really have a really nice foundation to draw on!

What are the choir samples like in Philharmonik ? If possible I'd like to hear a demo so I can compare them to 'Symphony Of Voices'...

Post

those demos up on the esoundz page are absolutely phenominal. great job squids.

caleb i totally hear you out man. actually when sampletank first came out i didnt really know what it was cause the advertisements made it mysterious. sonic synth got my ears perked up. i dont think i even heard demos of sonic synth before i bought it. i got one of the first copies. squids is cool cause he had a real presence here and never really left. customers get the opportunity to chat with him all the time - he's one of the few who makes this effort, and i think others have learnt from him.

the sonik synth series and the newer plugins coming out like miroslav just pack it in. other companies charge way too much for too little but not these guys! i'm sure other companies hate how much squids packs into his products cause they have to follow suit(if they're smart)
