My understanding has been that the $99 2.1 sound upgrade is available only for XL owners. The 2.1 press release seems to suggest as much: http://www.sampletank.com/Main.html?prod_ST_XL

Have you seen or heard something to the contrary?
Yes, here is the link.

I am just a hobby composer. The people that I know that are also just hobby musicians all have way more than just one sampler/sound module.

Personally, I got
Halion 2.0
ST2XL
Sonic Synth2
Hypersonic
Groove Agent
Virtual Guitarist
Virtual Guitarist Electric Edition
VSL Chamber Strings
SR Omnisynth
SR Symphony Strings
EMU Proteus-X
count me in for Philharmonik. 8)

I am just a normal person. As long as we don't have real market statistics, it's just opinion, whether most people can afford just one sampler/Sound module.
I can say that I would prefer ST2XL or SonicSynth2 over Halion any day, cause of the big number of sounds. And these sounds work perfectly in my music.
Of course one cannot compare them to VSL Chamber Strings, but that cost €800 alone, just for strings - they'd better be really good for that money. Still, there's many occasions where the SR strings do exacly what I need and do it as good as or better than the expensive VSL library.

Good point. And don't forget to refer to my friend (user harmonygardens) when getting it from esoundz, that'll give you both $5 in epontz. :hihi:

Kim (esoundz) wrote:Caleb, if you've already got the engine then the 2.1 engine upgrade is free. The sounds upgrade is going to be $99 if you've already got ST2XL. Seeing as you're an engine-only customer, I suggest you contact eSoundz directly (via email) and get one of the staff to fix you up. :)

Thanks Kim, I'll suss out my options with eSoundz direct. Although Miro is going to be my highest priority at the moment.

The $99 sounds upgrade is available for all ST2.0 users. That includes ST2L.

Hmm, I've been wondering whether in fact the "L" product will be phased out of existence once the new soundset is released. I think this because no-one has ever suggested, say, a single-DVD soundset upgrade for ST2L - its always the two-dvd soundset for XL.

So once the 2.1 product is released it will be simply SampleTank 2.1 and there will no longer be XL and L versions though possibly for a while they might keep the XL suffix to reassure people </speculation> :)

I think you're probably right - the L version seems a bit redundant. Mind you, you'd need to take a careful look at the percentage of buyers who choose it as their entry point before canning it - for all I know it could be the most popular version!

Yeah...most normal people have a hard drive or two full of sound modules. :hihi:

I have the following sound modules:

Absynth 3
Reaktor 5
Garritan GPO
Sampletank 2XL (with the 6 capsules)
Amplitube (going to get v2, most likely)
Wusikstation

Plus the plugins in:
FL Studio XXL (including Sytrus)
Ableton Live (not Operator, though)

Plus endless effects...

I was also led to beleive that anyone who was involved in the bundle deal who purchased the STXL upgrade will also be entitled to the 2.1 upgrade as well as the new sounds for free

which bundle deal? The SonicTank group buy?

People who got the SonicTank group buy + the St2XL upgrade qualify for a free ST2.1 upgrade, which includes the engine(plugin) plus the new DVDs with the samples.

Yes, this is true. If you got the XL upgrade then the 2.1 upgrade is free with the new sounds (when it is out).
