The problem with us, men, is that we used to think with the wrong head. I wouldn't blame on women, but on us.

Let's have a Summer Trance Session month. Since I'll be gone on vacation I won't have to listen to all of it anyway. 8)

i know you're ironic, but a theme about spirituality, in the broader sense possible, not specifically religious, would be quite interesting.

i guess it would be another glorious Gossip Thread, too. :hihi:

What Major Label today would sign something considered irrelevant to today's music marketplace?
A fictional one perhaps? :hihi:

f**k major labels, go find some music you like on a small but respectable label. Plenty of them: Matador, Siesta, Marina and the list goes on....

[heavy sarcasm]No! You think it'd make another contentious Gossip Thread? I mena religion and spirituality has never caused contention before, has it? Best to just stick with Christian music 'cause everyone knows Christianity has never caused any bad feelings between people.[/heavy sarcasm] :troll:

Ah man!!!!! I didn't even notice until my better half pointed it out. I was starting to regret posting about a week ago even though it still gives me a chuckle. It's my first number 1 vote (my cherry has now been popped :P )

yup, kinda what I was going for. Blipverts

Name that tune! Slightly loud - there was some clipping evident on this, but it must have been quite a challenge to put so many diverse tracks into something that sounds cohesive as a whole. Major labels would definitely be interested in this track - but probably for the wrong reasons :)

Wow...busy stuff. Sounds like my radio tuner is going haywire again. This is too noisy and messy for me. I do hear an overall coherence but it's not something I'd listen to on a radio. I get a sense that you spent a lot of time on this, though - it is a good piece, productionwise but not above my cut.
I should have spent a bit more time on this since I didn't use effects bar a little compression it was all meant to be an exercise in volume automation alone. The fact that you saw it as cohesive at all is great. It is there, but could have been better. 53 songs in two minutes, it could have been so much worse!!!!

As always special thanks to You" and to Farlukar Markleford,Emdot Hovmod Xander, Repirator, Aide cin, Rockstar_Not for the reviews and votes and HM's

For anyone who finds choosing ten a real chore - REVIEW -

Ok Lady J
In the interest of music (this IS why were here isn't it), post the links to the tunes you mentioned, better yet edit the post where you replied, so we can improve the signal to noise ratio in this thread , and I will gladly listen to your other works. I look forward to it. And I mean this sincerly. I'll even review them all by PM if you wish.

I will now add to the noise since the competition is now closed and there won't be much more reviews that I might miss.

If I came across as harsh then I apologies. It was 1:30am when I posted and I was tired plus you bugged me for over two weeks.

You can't blame me for being pissed off. You wasted a lot of my valuable time this month.

1) Know your market. Pointless speiling out the crap you did, in a forum for producers and musicians. I don't imagine Beyonce hangs around here and for good reason. That's not to say she wouldn't benefit musically.

2) Do you actually like the music you do? I mean when you are criticised you say "oh it's what the public wants. But when you are complemented you treat it as fact. You talk like a politician not a producer. I for one don't own a TV or Radio.

I visit a friend every now again to veg out in front of MTV and wallow in the shit, but once I leave his house I don't get to hear pop music until my next visit. Most of it I'm convinced does not actually sell copies, these days. The money is made in appearances at A parties, merchandising etc. Sure you look good but will you be making music when you is forty. I think you will, but your attitude will have changed.

(note: since I don't have TV, I never get to see the Performance Channel if any body has this channel and a capture card......)

3)Most pop hits big time, big impressions, pics everywhere - saturates the market - then quickly becomes boring and then fades into obscurity. Sound Familiar.

4) And here's the big un. I come from a country (Ireland) where Free Speech is not guaranteed. The Gov. can pass a law at any time banning political parties from TV radio etc. That childish tantrum had nothing to do with free speech, or sexism( my god!how dare you), and is so typical of popstars who turn their head to politics or current affairs or whatever just to get on the front page.
"I've forgotten what fundraiser this is, I'm here for the food." I can't remeber who actually said this (Warren Beaty?) but it was an Aids Awareness event.

5) Big Metal Foot in Big Metal mouth. You strike me as a girl with a lot of wit and intelligence, but you disguise it with DivaExtreme (tm). Don't bother. Intelligence is well recieved here and you could fit right in. I for one bemoan the lack of femininity in this forum and (even the mainstream insights). But see these as (valid- yet opposing) ideas rather than outright - conflicting ones, where you are right and everyone else is misguided.

6) Spend some time focusing (not just for the voting) on other peoples work. Give them some time, and they won't begrudge time given to you. Remeber there are total beginners here as well as the more proficient. And they might benefit from your insight if it was given in a more humble(palatable)manner. If you had spent the same time reviewing that you did with the sillyness (a lot of effort wasted). You could have remained mainstream and gained the well deserved respect of EVERYONE here

7)Can I have some Acapellas?

Like love, spirituality, as i understand that word ("in the broader sense possible"), can make a fool of yourself, can make you suffer, for good or less good reasons, but it has never harmed anyone.

Spirituality: coextensive with love, love of life, love of being, love of truth.

Nothing to do with bigotry, which is the main ennemy of any true spirituality.

In that sense, you can be atheist, or whatever you want to call yourself, and spiritual.
And any art work is an act of spirituality...

I would like to re-proprose my theme idea for July:

the KVR version of Brian Wilson's 'Smile' album.

Some complained that they didn't know who Brian Wilson was the first time I proposed the idea.

Background info:

Brian Wilson is the musical/genius and LSD tripped out weirdo brains of the Beach Boys.

No, I don't like Beach Boys music, but I recognize it for what it was and still is today:

1. It is iconic.

2. It was terribly innovative (Pet Sounds, that is - as well as 'Smile')

3. It is deeply thought out and composed - on the order of a Bach fugue with the layers upon layers of counterpoint.

4. And the most KVR thing of 'Smile' - most of the songs on 'Smile' are just over 2 minutes long.

On Smile, the little 2 minute pieces, vignettes, are strung together in loose movements. Some of this is due to the fact that in each movement there are only a few tempo changes, but they work together.

So, here's the proposal again - follow me on this:

1. We limit July's contest to a few tempos; I suggest 60, 80, 100 and 120 bpm

2. Perhaps limit to a few keys as well (Hey that Raveonettes CD was all in one key).

July's contest would be for entrant's to pick their tempo and key and put up their best 2 minute track.

We could construct August's contest as to who makes the most interesting mash-up of them - like Techbot's entry this month, but instead, using July's entries for the raw material.

Let's call it: Upside-down Frown (a frown, turned upside down, is a Smile)

I would be able to enter July's contest, but I have no idea how to do mash-ups so I would just watch the August results.

By the way, anyone in the US catch Brian Wilson and his 'biographer/handler' on Charlie Rose last week? Man, what a testament for staying away from LSD.

You mean I just get to use some of the white ones?

In an attempt to get things back on track, I need to bring up some matters:

1) Someone needs to close the voting thread at the appointed time today. Griels, do you have this under control? Since you started it, seems the thing to do.

2) Do we have an official point-counter for this month yet? I'm not sure how serious the few volunteers were earlier: speak up again if you're willing. If none of you spread-sheet wizards out there volunteers, I will take over this task. The only requirement is that you provide a "worksheet" with the point tallies visible so that interested (or suspicious/paranoid/Lady J) parties can check your work. Look at the last few month's result threads for an example.

3) When the results are available, we need the Results thread created and stickied. Griels or I could do that: just give us notification, whomever is doing the accounting.

4) We need a theme for next month. None of the suggestions thus far are drawing the crowd. Given the headache that this month has been, I would like to propose, "Fun for a Change". It's up to participants to play up either the "Fun" or the "Change". And of course anyone is capable of declaring such an ambiguous theme meaningless, as usual, and just doing free for all. Get other theme suggestion in now, otherwise!

5) Once we get the theme, we need the Submission and Gossip threads. I'll do that if Griels is too exhausted after all the other thread-wranglin'. ;)

Thank you, citizens. As your Interim Reichminister of Contests, I appreciate your cooperation in these matters.
