To answer the original question:

Any Christians making music here?

I answer 'Yes' to that.

Also, I write by the mantra that there is no such thing as Christian music, just Christian lyrics. I think C.S. Lewis said that long ago.

Sometimes my songs employ Christian themed lyrics, sometimes they do not. Because I'm a Christian and compose the songs, does that make all of them 'Christian'? No way.

I also do not believe that someone must be a Christian to appreciate lyrics that come from that standpoint.

In this month's KVR song entry contest, I posted a song that was very fresh in my mind.

The song is called 'Loser' and if you'd like to take a listen, it's here:

www.rockstarnot.audioshot.net/scottsongs.html

The lyrics were inspired by this short piece in Relevant magazine:

http://www.relevantmagazine.com/modules ... e=&order=0

Several people that reviewed my song made comments that it was too self-deprecating/overly sincere, etc. Well, I didn't intend it that way, this article just made me think in this way - plus the song length is only 2 minutes and I didn't have enough time to complete the thought that the article does above.

It has received many more votes than I thought that it would - something is resonating and I hope that some of that is the lyrics. They are deeply personal, but I also think that they are universal in nature.

Anyway, I'd like to get into some collaborative work with some of you. I'm not in any band, but if you like the music on my site and would be interested in collaborating, please PM me.

I'm a Christian, and I make music.

I'm not a troll, but I live under a bridge... and I know some trolls. Nice people.

I don't know about that.

Put whatever (latin) words you want to it, this would still say "Christian" to me.

Nice recording, no?

Who f**king cares? Why does it matter even slightly? Why do people feel the need to label themselves and/or identify with a particular social grouping? Surely its the seed of prejudice and intolerance, as though non-christians are somehow less relevant? What the f**k is that about?

I don't see why that has to be the case - does all Messiaen's music have lyrics, does Bach's? I think music can be created to evoke, invoke or communicate concepts, feelings and experiences that go beyond (and before) words and that must surely include experiences of a spiritual nature.

i can only agree. But i think you can't put any kind of lyrics above any kind of music without making a monster. Music is more than a meaningless noise adaptable to any purpose. It is a language.. i mean shouting "sweet jesus loves you" in a punk style is technically possible but artistically... well... err... unsatisfactory. (i'll add that i like punk music, when it is the expression of a punk attitude, i take it for what it is).

Erm... I guess that's what they call 'human nature' Self-identification and then socialising. Sort of.

I do, however also make music and make a living with it so I am indeed blessed.

Click on my banner below for my main band's website. I also enter the contests from time to time and usually place just below the prize winners. :D
