I think that someone was me...
Well actually I am planning on using loops (rendered from pieces created in Tracktion)... Has anyone done much Live-style improvising with eXT? Thanks...
What kind of loops - melodic, drums, monophonic, polyphonic? Do you need them timestretched?
Are these loops home-grown (if so, can you use MIDI and VSTi's instead of audio?

Oh i was using Groovesinc with audio loops in the audio part earlier its so cool to be able to just flick through loops perfectly sinced at the touch of a button.

This is gonna get hammered here live but we make all types of HipHop so triggering off loops to interact with is something we love.

Groovesinc also works with the MIDI part and others which allows beat chops and so on all sinced perfectly.
Shameless plug i know :)

Caleb,

I can't believe I missed this thread. You know how much I am interested in live performance! I am using Energy XT as my main live performance platform of choice. But XT has only recently become the main choice because of the recent LIVE mode in Energy XT and the global quantize feature.

I employ a beefed up laptop put together by a company specializing in computer audio - Its' a P4 Northwood 3.4 ghz w/ 1gig ram. It smokes and I've hardly had a problem with it.

Count me interested in any projects concerning live performance using Energy XT.

And for live use, some (otherwise excellent) VSTs just can't cut the mustard. For example Green Oak Crystal is a fantastic free synth but it's just unusable for live use.

As long as you use only select VSTs that you know and can trust live, you can't go wrong with eXT for live use. In fact, there's nothing out there that compares, in my opinion.
I just posted a new thread in 'instruments.' If you are using some trusted VSTi's for live performance, I'd really appreciate you posting to this thread:

Great thread.

I bought XT purely for live use as a VST host. Will have my first gig with it in a couple of weeks. Previously only used hardware gear. Will be using a laptop with an Edirol FA-101 firewire interface and PCR80 & Radium controller keyboards. No problems so far in rehearsals.

Aj@uma, please give us more details about your set up: loops, audio, midi, scenes...

Caleb and every Energy XT performing artist,

I really think there is a big enough community of XT users who are using it for live performance, I would love to see a small discussion forum on this, or at least a continuing thread (sticky?)

I could talk to the moderatos at LivePA.org and see if we could have a home there perhaps. I just think a lot of us want to share and compare notes on how we use XT as a live performance app.

I'm really just gonna be using it to host VST instruments and playing them live at the moment as part of a band. So no sequencer, midi parts, loops etc - all quite traditional. I've looked at a variety of software for this and been a Cubase user for many years but XT just seems to be the most flexible, simple and stable platform for this. The only thing that lets it down a bit (IMHO) is the mixer comp is too basic for live use - needs to be bigger and have labels (using nicfits label plug).

In a few months I will be doing more of a solo project using some loops where the drummer will be playing to a click and everything will be sequencer driven. Will have to look into the 'Live mode' thing.

Good Idea, let us know what's going on then !!
Don't you know what Mekanik Metal Disco looks like ?

I am looking at using eXT as a VSTi inside ORION, just for its ability to trigger MIDI parts from note messages. It just makes it a gazillion times easier to increase the amount of sound that is triggered live on stage.

Caleb:

Using a IBM T60 with 2 monitors chained together.. using XT as a live MIDI capture device from FLS.. BUT it's quite a tricky thing to do... The fact that there is no CC for clock sync makes it kinda difficult (for my needs).. Have to do a lot of manual things when recording my performance whilst simulaniously controling nobz buttons and keys. Theres quite a learning curve and I still havent fully got it down...

I'm using a HP Pavillion ZV5445US Notebook (1GB Ram) with a X-Station controller (wich is my audiocard too), eXT as my main host and plugin chainer. I use some sequences live (with a click track for the drummer) and i'm creating a new setup with soma's tap tempo plugin.
Had just a few issues (i think that almost all are X-station's driver related). I'm thinking about buying a soundcard with more outs (and better drivers...FireWire M-Audio maybe... any suggestions??) to build a really rock solid setup.

I've almost been done configuring eXT as my new live guitar rig when NIs Kore arrived. I'm afraid that the latter will now do the job for some reasons, the main thing probably being that the controller is showing all the values I may have to tweak, so I can keep the laptop closed and hidden in some rack caddy.
Otherwise, I'd say that eXT is offering even more flexibility - so I may perhaps end up using eXT inside Kore for a few things.

Those CC controllable audio cable switchers are just kickass stuff in case you're a guitar player.

I've turned from an Ableton Live user to EnergyXT user so I'm building a new set around EnergyXT. I use a laptop, Behringer firewire card and a Yamaha RS7000. A total bomb-bomb-bomb for playing live ;-) (I could use a touchscreen for my laptop though, hahaha).
