Hello,
I heard some djs use more and more softs like Ableton Live to produce mixtapes and even perform live in gigs.
Anyone already did this ? Mixing full songs with Live ?
How do you work ? do you first edit the tune to trim it and keep a loop that you will import in Live ?
Do you succeed in matching the beats ? and what about tempo change, is it supported by Live ?
Thank you for you answer as this would maybe help me in choosing what to purchase.
I am also wondering if Acid would do the job.

I do it all of the time. In Live 4, you need to read the documentation about how to warp long audio tracks... I've heard that Live 5 will make warping long audio tracks easier...
At any rate, the results are fabulous.

Yes, that's true (I'm a beta tester).
In Live 5 you can import .mp3 files and they auto warp as soon as you import them. There is also now a new "complex" timestretch mode which is simply stunning.

it really is, I did a maxwell remix for my friend, and when I showed him how easy it was to do, he almost sh*t himself.
Never mind the quality of the "complex" timestretch mode

If it sounds good it is good.
