Hmm. Really, really depends by what you mean by electronica. Some would argue that started in the '70s.

But as for the others:

Grunge = America finally understands punk (20 years too late)
Gangsta Rap = Rap is repackaged with more violence (10 years after the fact)
Spice Girls = Teen pop + porn (Mmm, didn't Maddonna do that in 1985?)

So, tell me again . . . what music was actually truly originated in the '90's?

Post

Grunge? 90's? FFS get a clue.

Green River. Formed 1983.

"It was the era that started with a war and ended with a war."
"It was the era that gave rise to Grunge, Gangsta Rap, 'Electronica' and the Spice Girls."
'It was the heyday of raving!'
'It was the era when VST and many of us came of age.'

So I propose........

So dust off your Korg Legacy collection, Ibanez guitar, Novation Bass Station and prepare for......

"I Love The 90s!"

Anything from jinglejangle REMish stuff to to Public Enemy ish rap to Grunge to Aphex type stuff to Big Beat/DnB/90s Trance/90s Pop would be covered. The 90s was such a diverse decade. Let's do it up proper!
I find that a great idea!

hehe....

well it had it's high times in the late 80's but the wider audience came - starting with Nirvana... which had only one "Grunge" record which was Bleach imo.... the rest (from earlier stuff like the songs that ended up on incesticide to later stuff) was more of a new wave punky pop rock

Grunge wasn't really a musical style though - it was more of a sound.... bands like: Tad, the Fluid, Mudhoney, Green River, Fastbacks, Screaming Trees, Steve Fisk and others come to mind

the main guru (god how I love this word nowadays ;)) who was responsible for that sound was Jack Endion... who recorded most of those bands at his Reciprocal Recordings - Studio
