Hi there,
I have been trying to convince a percussionist friend of mine to make a sample cd. He has every percussion instrument known to man, and the skills and studio. Is there a market for obscure percussion stuff like kanjira, riq, big taiko drums, big native american beaters, etc?
I plan on using all positive responses to further convince him the world needs percussion samples!
Regards,
Geoff

There is for sure a market for free samples – but they have to be exquisitely different to put a price on them imo – to stand any real chance they would need to be mapped out in some way for various sample players too.

Hi Spe3D,
Thanks for the input. So just putting them out in .wav or .aiff isn't good enough? Ah well, there goes that idea... I am still gonna have him make me some samples
Cheers,
Geoff

There is geometry in the humming of the strings, there is music in the spacing of the spheres. Pythagoras

i think wav samples are fine. the samples are 50% of the work. marketing your site where they're located to get some decent traffic (and therefore sales) is the other 50%

Of course there is a market for the obscure and different. But you need to have a plan and make it well to be able to sell it. It's important to plan the recordings and make the end product usefull and easy for the end customer to use in production. Great demos is important to show how the samples work.

I would say you need to have something different to stand out from this list Geoff, geoffrey wrote:Hi Spe3D,

If it's .wav or .aiff, unless they are full multi samples with the correct naming (with tuning info etc) then yes there is a market, finding it and getting the cost is a tricky aspect - but you really do need to have a great product to charge for it at any price.

i'd consider contacting one of the drum sampler developers too. perhaps you may be able to do a deal.

Thanks guys these are all great ideas that I will bring to my friend. Are any of you aware of any good kanjira or riq samples? I am also looking for a comprehensive set of tanpura samples. I have tried Proteus world. I may buy the Swar Plug in the future. Just looking for some kanjira, riq and tanpura samples for now.
Thanks,
Geoff
