Hi Aleksey, I don't take it hard. I just want a fair judgement and against a big company like UAD I feel this would have to be a blindfold test :)

Since i'm only quality biased i'll give both a shot tonight and then share my 200% objective opinion as reference :D
aka rktic. demoscener (Farbrausch, Holon, MFX, Still), sound designer, ux-dude, sth @AudioRealism, human synthesizer—not necessarily in that order.

another blind test with thge target of achieving similar sounds is a good idea, I vote for this test! However, it should be done like this: one UAD example comes from verstärker with his favourite sound (of course, he has to provide the dry file also). Then Torben and Aleksey try to mimic it. Also examples from Torben and Aleksey are psoted with their favourite sound, and yes, they may use ech and every feature of their software. Then it the others turn to mimic.
All examples should use chorus only, no other fx.

different choruses really sound different. i've yet to hear a plugin which sounds like the chorus on a solina, 80's rolands like juno 6 or juno 60 for instance. and they sound HUGE. i don't know how many voices the junos use, but the solina is a BEAUTIFUL sounding 3-voice chorus. actually, here is the solina patent from 1974 if anyone wants to use it for dev inspiration:

i'm currently buying, testing and dismantling a lot of chorus pedals, will post my findings here..

voxengo 4 voice chorus is the best VST one i've hear so far.

and here's a bit more about roland's dimension D chorus

a great vst chorus imho would have

* user definable number of voices - 1 to 4
* user definable high AND low pass filters before each chorus voice. they should be both usable simultaneously
* user tunable frequency for each voice
* user tunable phase for each voice
* user tunable depth for each voice
* user tunable panning for each voice

and since there are so many different controls, a user library of good sounding presets for different applications (bass, guitar, synths, vocals etc)

the answer th this is fx-designer (but it has 6 voices)

Extending what Dharmanwan suggests / wishes ... the same plugin could easily provide kickass flanging, not to mention a killer unison :)

The first developer to get inspired enough to pull it off will be loved eternally me yours truly.

(Now, let the flooding begin about "proper unisono" ;))

as I said, it is there: spinaudio fx-designer (except that it has up to 6 voices and that it does nit have simulataneous high and low pass filetr, also tunable frequency is not there, but tgherefore 3d position and feedback controls)

check it: http://www.kvraudio.com/get/564.html

Yes, I'm familiar with it - and like you just said, it doesn't provide everything that was suggested.

well, in some areas it provides even more, in some less, but it's almost it. so if you would suggest the frequency tuning feature to spinaudio (imo one can well live with just one filter per voice), you have your killer modulator.

I love the new UAD-1 chorus. It's very useable in today's modern sounds. I can't wait for the other Roland releases for the UAD-1.

I don't see why praise for the new UAD-1 chorus has to turn into a dev chorus contest. The new UAD-1 chorus stands up in its own right as a great chorus. Who cares if it's the best or not? It still sounds great.
