Hi Folks,
does anybody know a professional channel strip, that can be used for about everything? It should include an equalizer, a compressor and perhaps a limiter.
I've tested the Kjaerhus Golden Audio Channel and the WaveArts TrackPlug. My favourite the WaveArts, because it is so intuitive to operate. On the other hand, there is a Noise Gate, that I don't need and it has no limiter. The Kjaerhus is too complex for most of my applications and not as fast to operate. The Waves Renaissance Chanel and also the Audio Track by Waves are only available in expensive bundles. The Voxengo Voxformer seems to be specialized on vocals and is not versatile enough. I would need one for vocals, bass, guitars and maybe drums too. Most of the Voxengo stuff does not seem to have the usual controls of a compressor.
I've read a couple of tests to inform myself. Unfortunately most of them only inform about the features, not what the units sound like. Any ideas?

i am quite sure you can buy single plugs from waves. look at there onlinestore.
or look here:

VB audio also has a free one (it says demo, but it's fully functional), which obviously is quite feature-reduced, nicely sounding nonetheless. Pretty much an underrated plugin.

try the PSP Vintage Warmer, it does everything you just mentioned, and it has excellent quality, not only that, but it also has presets for the instruments you just mentioned.. oh.. and its easy to use also.. :)

On your WaveArts points.

1. You don't need a noise-gate? Er...ok. Turn it off then. There is an 'off' button.

2. Why would you need a limiter in a channel strip? The audio is already in the digital domain by the time it hits the plugin.

Limiters are not the norm on channel strips.

If you want a limiter for a particular reason then simply set the compressor ratio accordingly.

Amen to the VB-Audio strip; the hi-end EQ is particularily nice. Great little secret.

vb has 0% cpu hit.

Thanks for the VB-tip. The Equalizer seems to have few controls and only three bands with only one full parametric. Anyway, I'm gonna test it.

Yes chapionrabbit, of course I know, that I can switch off the limiter. But I don't like to pay for a feature, that I never use.
I used to put a compressor and a limiter into one channel, as I was doing everything analog with my dbx-unit. That gives kind of a 2-stage compressor, which first compresses the lower amplitudes moderately, followed by a limiter, whith higher threshhold. Even a compressed channel can run out of gain.

anyone noticed that the pay versions of VBs channelstrip (2 and 3) have disappeared :-(

Yeah, it's a bit of a weird site; half the links are dead...

Not a digital channel. Your signal is already in the digital domain (as I already said) and thus any clipping is already recorded.

Clearly you have no idea what you're talking about.

I suggest you buy some books instead of a plugin.

Or just use Google.

VBs channelstrip is very interesting.
I like the display a lot.
You can resize it to any size but there are no peak values to be seen.
You can clip and go +3db but there is no visual feedback at all.

Did you folks notice that even the free VB channel strip comes with a "shared meterbridge"?
I find this to be a rather cool feature.

On the Trackplug just put your compresser ratio to max and you have your limiter.
