I dont know much about it except that it sounds really f**king good and it was expensive. Obviously the laser part would have to be non-analogue but supposibly everything else in the thing is. I'll ask him when he gets home.

BTW, I can't hear anything at all over the air conditioning. Had to crank it to high, and it's still over ninety degrees in here. Even when I can turn it off in a few months my ears aren't good enough to do A-B tests so I'll let others have that fun.

I would say that for those of us on a budget digital is 10x preferable. Back in the day, analog brought me nothing but headaches. Tape hiss, distortion, noisy tubes... There is nothing "warm" about the distortion you get from an overloaded Tascam portastudio, or from a third-rate '60s portable hi-fi with burnt-out tubes. Did I mention tape hiss?
Of course, if you have some multi-thousand-$$$ all-tube this or that it better sound great, and more power to you. Rock on!
As for the emulations, count me among those who can't hear the difference. Maybe it's all that tape hiss I had to endure in my youth?

Why should anyone have to defend their use of either s/w or analogue h/w? It's a stupid starting point. You either like the end result and actual use of a tool or you don't.
I have some analogue synths, digital synths, s/w synths, analogue outboard, digital outboard and s/w FX and use each where each fits the best. Are people saying that every plugin and every h/w unit sound the same? That's just stupidity - even s/w filters sound hugely different from each other from plugin to plugin. Some s/w does things that no analogue h/w does and vice versa. If I want to spend a grand on a synth, that's my business. If I want to spend $100 on a plugin, that's also my business. And I'm certainly not going to waste time "proving" anything sounds different to anything else, because in terms of hearing sound, no two people are ever going to hear it the same way, no matter what you do to it. You can sit two people in front of an identical setup and they'll hear the exact same recording differently.
If anyone is going to limit themselves to s/w just because it's an issue to them, then that's their loss. In the same way I'm not going to limit myself to h/w. Personally I know where some h/w is unmatched by s/w, and I certainly am thankful I use some s/w that I also know is unmatched by h/w.
If some deaf c**t can't tell the difference between a crap Synthedit synth with cheap Eq on it and a Serge modular run dry, boohoo for him. And someone mentioned the Orgon synth - I've still not heard any s/w that sounds like that yet. Likewise I've not heard any analogue that can even come close to Wusikstation or XPhraze. I'd be f**king dim if I thought they were both the same though.
Do I prefer digital production? - of course I do - it does more, does it cheaper and doesn't often need maintainance. Does it sound like an 8-track 2" tape pressed onto vinyl? Of course it f**king doesn't - doesn't mean I want to use an 8-track again though.
