So what are the differences between Sonar Home Studio from its big brother Sonar? 8)

Sonar Producer has...
1.Surround sound
2.Full Sonitus suite
3.Unlimited Audio tracks (although Sonar HS does have 64 audio tracks and unlimited midi tracks)
4.Lexicon plugs
5.Dedicated video track
6.Mpex

More possibly...

I imagine Cakewalk want to provide a low cost entry point for those who don't want the features above. Not bad. Not bad at all.

It does seem to have the best parts of Sonar, the new icons look good (not everyone's cup of tea) but a nice addition I think.

The Piano roll, staff, loop construction and video views now seem fully integrated into the interface like Project5 v.2's Piano roll.Interesting.

It looks like this version of Sonar offers one single view for everything. Check out the tabs under the Piano roll...

Thanks for the info CM Maker. 8)

Beside releasing an entry level version of Sonar, it looks like (from a marketing standpoint) that Cakewalk wants to piece up Tracktion customers too! This would sell nicely.8)

Hmmmm there are also alot of new P5 Users who don't use Sonar (like me) and an App like Sonar Home would be a good way to upgrade too Sonar if you wished to expand your overall setup.
So I think it's trying to appeal to users of their other software also.

I have to agree with you there. Cakewalk appear to have provided the key Sonar feature set and combined it into one interface. So just about the biggest complaint or reason to use Tracktion has been addressed by Cakewalk. No multiple edit windows to be found in this version of Sonar.

Tracktion of course is still an excellent package but Cakewalk have now it would appear, provided a 'single user interface' alternative.

Each to his own I guess.

Sonar Home Studio even has a mixer strip in the main view as well, so no need to even open up the mixer. Impressive stuff.

Of course as with Sonar4 Producer you can mix within the track view, at track level anyway, even without the mixer strip.

The full mixer view is not bad either...

Looks great, like Cakewalk have finally figured out what to do with Home Studio... I've been using it since HS 2002, and it's a terrific package at a very reasonable price.

I've been calling it Sonar's little brother for ages now... nice to see they've made it official.

Looks like the academic resellers don't have "Sonar Home Studio" yet, but I'd be surprised if the student price is much more than what they're currently asking for "Cakewalk Home Studio 2" [$68].

I guess the fact I'm a Traction user reading this thread with interest proves your point. :)

I had HS2002 for a while but couldn't get it running reliably on my old PC, then Tracktion came along, worked fine so I stuck with it.

However: Tracktion ain't perfect and I may well try again with this version, as long as it can timestretch a piece of audio without mutilating it... :)

I noticed the RXP DXI in the XL version plays sfz loops, and they've also bundled RGC's Square 1. Neat!

very nice indeed, I really like one-window user interfaces. (hear that steinberg!!) hehe

The position of the Piano roll in the main view seems similar to Live 4/5 and the price ($230) is almost identical to Tracktion2 for new customers.
Very interesting.

If the new integrated views work as they do in P5v.2 then you should be able to drag them up the screen and possibly to the left for a full screen view as well. Nice.

I started with Acid 4.0 & HS 2002, then got FLStudio 3.56. When Cakewalk was offering a reasonable crossgrade from Acid to Sonar 2, I jumped on it. I skipped Sonar 3, but when Sonar 4P came out on a special offer (I just love Cakewalk's special offers!) that I could have the 2 to 4p upgrade for the same as 3 to 4P, I took it...

... but I always thought that Sonar was a bit much for my needs, but HS wasn't enough until now (edit). Then I scored P5V1 for $129 and a free upgrade to P5V2, and since then FLS has sat pretty idle.

Cake's good folk, hey they hired Rene - just think what Steinie would do...

mmm interesting...does it have the same audio/midi capabilities as full Sonar? I was considering getting Sonar to combinet it with FL, mainly for hardware synth's usage...
