Performance with Ambience

I am interested in some performance comparison:

Config:

- Cubase SX
- 256 Samples ASIO Latency, 44,1 Khz fixed, 16 bit
- Energymode "Desktop"
- XP
- first ambience preset of default preset bank

System:

- AMD 64 3200+ Winchester
- 1024MB CL3 Infineon RAM
- M-Audio 2496 recent PCI-standard-drivers
- Hypertransport @ 1ghz
- FSB 400

Take care that ambience instances have sample input and you dont mute the output.

i can use 8 instances with this config.

How many instances can u use with the config mentioned above? I am very interested in firewire interface results.

I don't have an identical config but here are some results:
Same hardware excepting A64 3000+ cpu not 3200+
Same soundcard + latency
Tested in Chainer and energyXT

I can load 9 instances without cpu overloading, the 10th instance pushes it over 100% cpu usage. Seems like maybe Cubase is wasting some cpu perhaps?

Now this is really strange. I have two Xps installed, one without any service pack and patches and another with sp2a with all patches available:

the sp2 version runs one ambience instance more in buzz on 256 samples, 44khz etc... seems there has been a big audio performance increase or i did not install a performance degrading software in the sp2 system...
