mda Talkbox HOW?

Hi!
Can anyone explain in simple terms how to set up Logic Express (or any given DAW application) in order to function with the mda Talkbox plug? I want to get that vocoder voice effect. How do I get my voice to modulate a specific synth sound? How do I have to route my logic tracks? Help very much appreciated!

mix synth to left and vox to right (or vice verse, forget) and put talkbox on the main bus
bounce audio down
open audio in host, mute synth and voice tracks :p

Hm. Tried this, but I'm not sure I got you right. What means "put talkbox on main bus"? Am I supposed to apply the effect through sends prior to bouncing? And why bouncing? I'm lost...

basically you will need to send the synth sound one of the plugs inputs, and the vocal to the other. This means inserting the plug on a group, and routing both synth & vocal tracks to this group, panned hard left & right.

Is there an easier way to do this. So far I've never tried to put together a group. As far as I can tell, this plug doesn't let me choose different input sources?!

Yes: use Tracktionbimsbrohm wrote: Is there an easier way to do this.
No. Thats why you need to pan your synth hard one way so it arrives exclusively at the plugs carrier input, and pan your vocal hard the other way to make sure it is the only thing to reach the modulator input.bimsbrohm wrote:As far as I can tell, this plug doesn't let me choose different input sources?!

I got it working here - thanks xoxos!
I set this up in EnergyXT:
Vocal audio track output panned hard left;
Synth output panned hard right;
Route both vocal and synth outputs to the *single* Talkbox audio input (there is only one audio input on Talkbox).
Route the Talkbox audio output to Master Out (or render to wav, if you wish)
Push the Talkbox sliders to zero dry and max wet for full effect.
While the vocal loop is playing, input midi to the synth to hear the vocoded voice.

Hi SWTrex
I followed your steps, but didn't quite succeed (in Logic). I routed the panned vocal and synth input to a bus. I put the talkbox plug in the insert of the bus. I play the loop and hear the sound of the synth and the voice that stems from the bus channel. But: I don't hear any effect at all. When I put the sliders zero dry and max wet I don't hear a sound at all. Are you using the mda talkbox AU plug or the VST?
Thanks, Bims

I'm using the VST version. I know nothing about Logic, I'm afraid. Maybe there's something unique required for Logic. There's a link on the mda website to contact the author. Don't give up - the result is pretty good. Good Luck.

-put talk box on a stereo bus.
-output the synth signal to that bus, hard panned left.
-output the vocal signal to that bus, hard panned right.
-while playing logic, play the synth`s midi track, manually or recorded.
however, the panning maybe could be vice versa, don`t remember thatone right now (change the pannings of the source tracks then).
this should get you going ...

im so sorry man, logic express (ttbomk) has no stereo sends and all 'sent' items are also duplicated wet so you'd ave to ditto + invert tracks blah blah
when i say PUT IT ON YOUR MASTER BUS
im f**ked up i mean
PUT IT ON YOUR MAIN BIG THING THE MEGA MASTER MAIN
the one big thing, where everythnig goes
run that
it's not hard to figure out so i stop moving now

Seems a pretty weird plug to use. But I'll go ahead and master the challenge...thanx for everybody's information. I'll let you know about success/failure.

mda Talkbox predates the era of multiple audio ins on plugins. In that time you only had a stereo pair of inputs. So if you want to cross-modulate two independent signals, the only way is to send one signal in on the "left" channel and the other on the "right".
Of course, this only gives you mono processing -- unless you run a pair of them. Or four, even, if your modulator is also stereo... Lots of fun getting the routing worked out and the outputs remixed.

This workaround works in Midi Studio for these sorts of plugins, so I'd guess it'll work in Logic (IIRC, I did try it in someone else's version of Logic a while back, but I can't swear to it).
Use mda talkbox as a send/return effect, not an insert.
Set up the source to be used as a carrier on an Audio or audio Instrument track. Deselect any audio output for that channel strip in the selector at the bottom, pan the output full left or right and turn the send control up. On the versions I've used, this gives no direct output from the track, all the sound you hear goes via the send effect.
Set up another source track the same way, but pan it in the opposite direction.
Hope that helps.
