Hahaha - I was thinking about doing a cover of that this month. Just the snippet of Sinister Footwear from Wild Love on Sheik Yerbouti, with the latino stuff that follows it (which is very danceable).

Now that I've announced it it won't happen. I have a different plan. I'm taking this month's contest and theme very seriously! Mhm. Very! Music to dance to it will be.

It may be something with my mailserver. I am not getting any email from KvR anymore - all stopped yesterday. All threads. Hmmm... None of my spam filters delete messages. I'll bet someone here has deliberately hacked my servers in a diabolical plot to keep me out of the game. If that's the way you all want to play, I'm leaving! :P

You can dance if you want to. You can leave your friends behind. 'Cause your friends don't dance and if they don't dance... Well, they're no friends of mine!

Slightly synthetic samples, but nothing distracting - maybe increasing the attack speed would give the brass a bit more bite. Puts me in mind of those old TV cop shows with funky disco title sequences. Likeable percussion fills. Mixing the kick drum and bass a bit higher mightn't hurt in the dancefloor stakes. Can't quite catch all the lyrics in the 0:55 section. If it's 'Dance to this, I'm broken' then I'm intrigued.

 It's Dance to this... and vote for me.

Wish I hadn't submitted so quickly actually... listened on a couple of alternative systems and it sounds terrible! Oh well, I guess another month without prizes. :hihi: One day.

You™ wrote: RichieBee, are you in those pictures? They look like a lot of people having a pretty good time. I take it that's the musical Chicago, not the windy city itself... :)
Yeah, it was Chicago the musical. I had the privilege of playing lead trumpet. The band was part of the set, with dancers all around. It was fantastic.

So... I'm in picture number three (http://www.richiebee.ca/chicago/chic03.html), the one with the hat on.

On headphones the mix doesn't sound too bad. You could improve it, yes, but at least all the instruments seem distinct and pretty well balanced in volume.

idunno you would think that you want to give your track more work and time for a contest (especially one with the awesomeprizes like this one) than 3 or 4 days?

For the contests, i often work in one or two intensive sessions. It's crazy, i'm super focused and work faster than i'll never do for other projects. The contest gives me wings... Once done, i should wait a couple of days and listen to the result with fresh ears, but i can't wait. i'm like a little kid who needs to show everybody what he has just done...

As for the prizes, it's really cool when it comes, but winning has never been my motivation. i just like sharing my musical ideas and seeing what others may do from the same start point.

Reviews:

Lady J - Jump And Wind

Very energetic piece! I love the part where the vocals come in. It's a bit fast, though, don't you think? Your dancers will get tired fast. :) Is that all synthesized, or are there some loops thrown in?

Jamesb - Mooshoo

Very groovy tune! Has a nice slow hip-hop feel to it. The drums and bass are good, but I almost wish the drums had a bit more bass to them and were louder. The organ sound is really excellent. I love the Jamiroquai-esque break. ;)

Wopelka - The Cave Hall Electro Menuet

Wow. That's possibly the most different song I've heard. Not sure how one would dance to this. Probably some goofy sort of tribal dance. It's kind of catchy. :)

Richiebee - Dance To This

Most funky! Is this 137 BPM per chance? Everything was groovy, and then those vocals came and you scared the pants off of me. You may consider slowly introducing the vocals or something, because they gave me quite a fright. All together, pretty cool tune.

Liqih - Tip Tap Stomp

You have some really cool synth drum sounds there. Wow. As soon as those synth horns (or whatever that is) come in, it's almost like a electronic big band tune. The combination works out pretty well, too. My only comment is that some of the rhythms are just a bit strange and lagging...

Armadillo - Panther

Great dance groove you get going there. Though, it seems like the vocals are just a bit too present and could use just a little less chorus/flanger. Keep up the good work!

Multree - Ubelong2me

Sweet brush drums! Seems a little short because of the long intro, unfortunately. It would be so better with more lyrics. Great job and cool feel, though!
