Helping a friend who uses GarageBand on his Apple G4 lappy. I had brought over the CM DVD with Session and all on it to hopefully give him something a little better (more like myself, when I have to fix up his stuff! ;) ) Anyhoo, after installing Muzy's - I discover it's a OS9 version, and my buddies is OS-X. No biggie, drag it to the trash and dispose of. Okay, lets try out this Session synth now. Install the OS-X version of it, yada-yada... There it is!
"Cannot Find .LIB file To Associate With...." or something like that? Fine, drag it to the Trash as well. So we'll just stick to GarageBand then... Fire it up - "GarageBand Has Unexpectadly Quit..." And we just get this 'Initialising' business until we have to Force Quit to get rid of it? Okay, so we re-install the boot disks and all to hopefully snap GB back to life, and NOTHING!

All other programs et al work fine on the lappy - expect GarageBand? How can I help my friend get it back to working order please!!! :bang:

I dunno, but check the Components folder in the Library/Audio directory and delete the Session synth's component that is likely causing GB to crash.

"A MAC is intuitive, has no virusses and never crashes anything..."

That (or something similar) was the remarkeble thesis of certain kvr members in the last MAC topic I discovered recently here.
Intuitively I did know, that this was merely a joke (but they thought that indeed seriously) ... :hihi:

"Macs are better for music."

Windows is better for running Sonar and Macs are better for running Logic.

And what's with GarageBand then?
"Garage is better for a garage band", I think ... :hihi:

Apple is better for Garageband. Windows is better for Acid. I guess.

But Grateful Dead shows were the best for acid :hihi:

well a MAC is hardly a OS9 Mac anymore. The UNIX core reminds me of a windoz OS. I am on a G4 ith OSX Panther for me music at home, and have to use a Windoz box at the day gig(job).

Have you tried to repair permissions? How much RAM does the compuer have.
How much Hd space is left? Only oneHD?

Anytime you instll and remove stuff that goes in the core system , you need to repiar permissions.BTW you can always go to the Apple discussions for specific help for GB.[/i]

Which version of OS X? How was it installed- clean, archive-install, upgrade?
Which version of Garageband/iLife?

The "upgrade" option of the installer is best avoided. It's there, but I have no idea why. All I hear are stories of bad installations and instability. The other options will work, though.

Thanks guys! :D I think it might be something simple as Braj pointed out - just some file/component I missed deleting that's in the system. Or, it's something deeper in this Core business that got messed up? Of course, this Error Report comes up that we can easily e-mail Apple with (which we did to no answers yet?). The report is like a mile long, and mentions 'Core not recognized/Core reaccessed/...' yada-yada. :?

So I'll take the easy route for now, and have a good look for anyhing that resembles the CM flotsam/jetsam I haven't chucked yet? Or, I'll have to get my buddy to get on the net with Apple Help and what all to hopefully fix it?

But what a freakin' pain from a PC to drag in a .DLL and just delete it huh?

Did you look for the component like I suggested? That's the equivelant to a VST DLL in Windows.
