Hi,
after some time using the new Buzmaxi3 I have to say that this thing is the only really transparent limiter which I have used so far. Even when driven to max it sounds clean. I tested it against Elephant and Ozone and it won. In addition, it is so easy to use. Thank you Ken Watabe (Buzzroom) for providing such a great tool for free. (btw, I am a big fan of GranComp3 also)

I have come to the same conclusion as well..very low distortion when pushed hard here also. This is a great clean sounding limiter. I find myself using this limiter for alot of projects now although Elephant and Ozone are still favs as well, depending on which one fits the style of music I am working on.

is it even better than the waves l2/l3 ?

I agree. It is superb and works on a lot of different material. IMHO it is superior to Waves L2 (native version, not TDM). I don't have enough experience with L3 to give a fair comparison to that.
Good work buzzroom! Also, make sure you guys check out the latest buzzcomp bundle demos as they are superb!

Just got back from mixing a track with Buz...this limiter in my opinion is better than Waves L2 for several reasons, the main thing being it just plain sounds good!! No coloration added at all that I can detect, second...its free!! I cannot believe this one is not mentioned more in the forums here, its about as good as it gets!! This developer knows his stuff. I am going to buy his latest as they are offered at a good bargin and I am sure they will be superb since his free plugs rock like this one...thanks much!!!!

It is a good plugin, that's for sure. Personally I found the Tls Pocket Limiter to be cleaner. Only because you can set the knee - at soft knee, the highs have more definition. Alot of hard knee limiters sound a little muted - Pocket Limiter is the same in that respect when set to 100% hard knee.
I did quite a few A/B comparisons when Pocket Limiter came out - to be honest, I didn't hear much if any difference between the two at hard knee. Possibly BuzMaxi lets you squeeze more volume out before audibly distorting - it's very impressive in that respect (I suspect it's not 100% hard knee.)
But when you bring the knee of the Tls one down it begins to shine. It might be more noticeable on my system than on others - I use Tannoy PBMs and they tend to be a bit sharp in the higher mids - plus my studio isn't set up that well in terms of accoustics (I have to compensate quite a bit, as everything sounds sharper than on most other setups, but I learnt to live with it until I can get a house with somewhere I can treat the accoustics more effectively).
Anyhow - you can set the Pocket Limiter down to 100% soft and it still seems to limit effectively - no clips as yet. When I A/Bed between BuzMaxi and Tls on 100% soft, the high end leapt out (or more to the point, it sounded more like it was before I limited). And that was the same even at very high limiting settings. It won't squeeze as much volume out at that setting, but you can still get a fair bit. The difference was similar to what you often hear when you A/B between a VCA comp and a s/w comp - VCA comps often dull the highs noticeably more - just a nature of how they work.
Almost any limiter will lose a little bit of sparkle if you push it hard - Pocket Limiter almost doesn't lose any up to 3 or 4 dBs limiting.
However, if you want hard limiting to really scrunch something up, BuzMaxi is hard to beat admittedly.
I really suggest a few of you A/B mixes between the two - set them up to the same amount of limiting but set TLs to 100% soft then flip in and out of each of them. It really is very noticeable.
Hard limiting - use either. Personally I much prefer the GUI on the BuzMaxi (the black one before the latest with the analyser) - it's a beautiful plugin. I don't think I've heard any other freebie that can be pushed quite as hard as the Buz one. In fact many other commercial ones also lose out.

I also tested Pocket Limiter and in terms of transparency it is miles away from Buzmaxi3. It does a lot of coloration and it distorts the sound when pushed hard - no matter what settings you make. So if you want a plugin with coloration then Pocket Limiter sure is an option, but since I use limiters exclusively for making it sound louder I would always pick Buzmaxi.

Hi
But TLs Pocket Limiter isn´t a really transparent limiter, indeed: It shines by its smooth coloration.
... And BuzMaxi3 shines by its impressive transparency.
Greetings,
Exact. Tls Pocket Limiter is a fantastic one; I frequently use it with wonderful results...I also tested Pocket Limiter and in terms of transparency it is miles away from Buzmaxi3

i find all the cleaner transparent limiters pump on beat heavy music, very noticable at higher settings, but i'm worried they still do subtly on the lower setttings i use. with buzmaxi3 its incredibly transparent, but pumps on the microdydnamics, with elephant (el2 and el3) it pumps on the macrodynamics.
for this reason i've moved back to a noisier limiter, still very undecided though.
