This isnt a digital v analogue thing, its just a fact. Tracks need to go through some quality analogue processing at some point in there production.

That's a bit of a sweeping myth itself. It doesn't need to at all. Certainly some choose to do so, and I understand why. It is not a prerequisite to use anything analogue. Likewise it is not a prerequisite to go all digital. They are all just choices that some use and some don't.

Yeh, I know what you're saying. Nothing is written in stone.

But I still think that bang for the buck you're better off doing this. The skills you'd need to make a 100% digital master sound great would be extremely high. I dont know any professionals who mix in digital master their own music, let alone do it totally in the computer.

Tell you what, go over to Sound on Sound and read through the engineer interviews. There's one with this guy who runs a mastering house in NY. He uses Samplitude (or maybe its big brother) for editing but swears by his old Neve pre's to give that subtle saturated flavor.

Some of that may just be that professional engineers, with their experience with hardware, are comfortable using those tools with whicht they are familiar. I would imagine that engineer is intimately familiar with those Neve pre-amps amd knows just how they will affect the sound. A digital vst might be able to do the same thing, but he might not know about it, and if he does, he may not feel as comfortable using it.

Thank you for all the replies. I think I am going with Ozone, because I love the other Izotope plugs and it looks relatively idiot proof.
