ack! I really like this software, but its driving me bonkers!!!

I first got the "this installation of tracktion..." followed by a "verify failure" in rewire. No problem, I dont use rewire so I reinstalled and disabled it. Everything hunky dory.

After a couple weeks I got the same "this installation of tracktion has become corrupted" but no rewire error. did some investigation, looked at the log file but nothing stuck out. Deleted the settings file and it works. But after a while it keeps coming back. I have to keep deleting the settings file and then set everything up again!?

wtf? I love tracktion but this is to annoying :(

tracktion 2.0.1.4 btw.
p4 2.8 with 512 megs of ram

this computer is dedicated to music, (no internet connection, no virus scanner running in the background etc etc). In fact I recently did a fresh format/install...

The thread you provided probably says it, but the easy way to fix it is to either keep a backup of your settings file or just make it a 'read only' file.

REALLY?! That's a great idea...if that works I'll be very, very happy. Right now I created a .bat file that runs the T2 reinstall and copies a backup of the settings file, but this sounds like a much better solution...

Yep. It seems to work just fine for me. Just keep in mind that if Tracktion wants to write to it, it can't because it's read only...so, and somebody else may confirm this, just get your Tracktion settings right and don't change them all too often :)

So has it been established that this is a bug and not crack related then and if so what conditions cause it as I've never had this problem since I insttalled it?

I get it with a fully licensed version, it appears that many others here get it, too. Maybe it's a Windows-only problem...are you on a Mac?

I can confirm that the read-only trick works. I can always get the error as long as I keep opening projects, jumping from the edit to the projects page and open another project, going back and forth like that. No more installation corrupt errors.

The only trick now is to temporarily allow it to write to it when scanning for new or updated plugs, or any other settings changes that I might need. But I can totally cope with that, I can finally work through a whole session without restoring the settings file manually.

Thinking about this, i know you've got a workaround now, but what would be very interesting would be if you made the settings file writable again, and then did whatever you need to do to get the installation corrupt message. And then post the settings file here (or maybe mail it to Jules or Beno or somebody)

Obviously if the workaround is to make the settings file read only, it's something in the settings file going wrong. Being as it's a pretty specific format, it seems there's some bug writing to it, and looking at the file to see what bit is wrong will highlight what the bug is.

It would also really help if you can figure out a bunch of steps that definitely corrupt it for you, from opening tracktion, to the point when it breaks. Not necessarily so people can replicate it, but more so Jules could think through what happens in each of those steps, and which one is corrupting the settings file.

So in the interest of getting the bug sorted, could you break your Tracktion installation again and post the settings file?

Sure, although i think the bug is pretty well known, isn't it? Beno has been watching the forums lately, Beno, would this help?
