Hmpf... I really need to get my hands on a Sansamp one day. Lost the last eBay auction.
I've allways liked the sounds coming out of those - and I also liked your sounds.

This thread could have gone one of two ways.

1. Useful list of links to great guitar tones that developers should be striving for.

2. Vanity thread where people post clips of themselves playing, regardless of the crapiness of the sound.

Which would you say describes the thread better?
Common championrabbit stop whining and post something. I heard you got a nice setup.
I can understand why you are talking about crapiness BUT:

a) a lot of clips sound good (not perfect) to my ears. I won't give names here since I try to be neutral in this thread. People have ears and preferences so each one can come up with his own conclusions

b) we, guitarists, tend to be a bit elitists. We're getting attached to our sound and everything else (except for some boutique amps) is crap. Believe it or not the studio I usually play has Twins, Plexis, and Boogies among other amps. However I keep on carrying always my cheap can-be-found-for-150$-on-ebay Peavey Bravo (3 12AX7 2 EL84 from JJ inside though  ) because I like my sound

c)don't forget that the majority of KVRers are bedroom studio musicians so if they want guitars on their tracks they WILL need a decent ampsim or something like POD, VAMP, SansAmp etc.

However I agree with you about the effects. Please keep them dry guys

Peace

PS if you think that a thread with clips from commercial records with good guitar sounds will be more useful why don't you start one. Don't forget to put some SRV, some John Campbell and some Kyuss in. That's the sound I like :D
If I go insane, please don't put your wires in my brain

I'm not whining; I thought this thread had promise, but it (for the reasons that I predicted) has turned crap.

If (when you started this thread) you were just dressing-up a vanity thread for guitar-playes to post their playing in then you haved acheived that.

If you were trying to seriously gather together a bunch of great guitar tones that designers should attempt to produce from their plugs then you have failed 100%.

People whine about the sounds from amp-sims, but I would suggest that if amp-sim designers are desgining for the kind've people who have posted clips of 'great guitar sounds' here the fault lies not with the amp-sim-makers but rather with the people who are demanding them whilst having no clear idea about what a 'great guitar sound' is.

Or how to make it.

Meh; who cares what I think?

Hey Rene, are those top mp3's from your sim?

Post

my vanity post:

http://www.lesliespring.com/ancientsigns.mp3

crappy bitrate for these samples, but guitars were done with a Line6 Vetta Combo, direct into a mackie board, then into a Creamw@re PowerPulsar.

-edit- oops! Sorry, zeoy, I only read the topic, so I didn't post what you were asking for. I have some good dry solo AmpliTube clips that I'll post in the near future.

@ Midiworks - Aww, I got my hopes up. But they did sound pretty good...

- back on topic (er, sort of)

It would be really cool to make a few riffs with different good quality amp settings (on either soft or hardware), and go into some explanation of what makes them "good" to the author, and how to achieve similar results in various software products available. that way we can get past the initial bias of what people think is a "good" guitar tone, and get down to learning, and sharing ideas.

@ SevenString - those are pretty good clips. I am not a big fan of the style of the over all song, but I definitely appreciate the art in it. I like the crisp distortion on the rythm tracks. I think a lot of players try to push too much gain, and lose a lot of the articulation, but those clips had really well defined rythm parts.

You could consider turning the tide and contributing something to make the thread more worthwhile? How about some nice examples, real or emulated, of Soldano, Dumble, Matchless, Vox, Diezel etc. Words backed up with zero effort count for shit in practically every field.

He didn't and he wasn't. If people have decided to post full mixes as examples of what they consider to be a good guitar sound then they failed to understand Zeoy's request - so why are you insisting the fault lies with him?

Apparently you don't. If folks could stick to Zeoy's orignal request then we could end up with an interesting comparison between different types of emulation from both digital and analog, code & FET and how they handle things like harmonics, bloom & sag. Of course if bitching at people is higher on your agenda then I believe KvR does offer other forums closer to your needs.

Before you guys go into crazy fits of furious wankery, I suggest that you count the number of clips of miced amps in this thread.

Also the number of un-effected clips.

Please feel free to hurl insults at me, but be aware that it won't improve the quality of clips in this thread.

Nor does your presence here. STFU.

no... you making sweeping generalisations about people and the fact that you can judge who knows what a good guitar sounds like is what my comment was about...and too that I say your comment (that I commented on one assinine and showed no level of mturity), and quite frankly right now you're coming off like a a troll...your point would have merit if you offered up constructive criticisms instead of attacks...
