PRS Santana SE- I got it!

On friday I'm getting an asian built PRS Santana, if I'm not strongly adviced against it here in this thread.

The only thing I don't like is that it says 'Santana' in big letters, but I suppose a sufficiently cool sticker can take care of that.

It's got the three things I want: The neck is as wide as I like it, it's got a Humbucker at the bridge and it's got a non-locking whammy bar.

I haven't owned my own guitar since my Fender Prodigy was stolen three or four years ago, so I'm pretty excited! :hyper:

Advice and opinions, please!

You maybe already know about it, but just in case, I always like to check the harmony central user reviews when I am looking for new gear:

or here if it's the newer version

Looks like most people like the guitar.

Thanks, _niko_!
Yup, it sure looks like people like it. Good. The guitar shop guy wasn't really a player, he was sort of reading pamphlets while I was looking at it...

I just got a call from a guy who is buying my Jazz Chorus, so that's the finances taken care of - maybe I'll get it already tomorrow... Heehee! :hyper: :hyper: :hyper: :hyper: :D

I did a search yesterday and found one dissenting voice http://www.edromanguitars.com/rock/santana.htm Mind you, he disliked it for the same reason you want one, ie the neck.
It struck me how similar the illustrated PRS Santana was to the Cort M-500 I used to have, at first glance, only the pick-ups are different. The Cort also had a 'chunky' neck and was a lovely guitar for the money.
RIP Black Tom and Beckett. They weren't just cats, they were MY cats, the best cats ever.

I suggest you not put a sticker on the gtr, if only because it might hurt it's resale value someday.

Hehe - all the guitars I've owned have been stolen, so I haven't needed to think about resale value...

Probably good advice, but I think I'll cover the first N and the last A, so it'll say SA TAN!

I'm pretty convinced though. It's good value and good looking and sits perfect in my hands and sounds sweeeeeet.

The guy who was going to buy my Jazz Chorus didn't call today, so I'm a bit disappointed. I hope he didn't change his mind. I can't buy the guitar if I don't sell the Roland first. Aargh.

Actually, that's not the one I'm looking at. That's the original Santana model.
I'm talking about the SE, which is a bit different.

It's this one, only it's black, of course. And it has a tremolo system. For slow vibrato and that dip at the end of phrases... Yum.

Yeah, that Ed Roman guy is a snob...
I suppose you know how much the american PRS Santana is. It's more like buying a car than a guitar
Sure I wouldn't mind having one, but for that kind of money...

I always lusted for the old PRS Classic Electric but then settled for a copy that was approximately a quarter of the price and still is a very good guitar (I do have a Gibson Les Paul too though).
Don't know if shipping costs etc. might make this a nono anyway, but this is what I bought instead:

I'm not in the market for a US-built PRS. It's too much of a Rolls Royce. Not enough Mustang. There's no boner in it. It doesn't say ROCK AND ROLL to me. I don't want a guitar that comes with white gloves, if you know what I mean. I won't give it a name. :)

The Santana SE appealed to me, but I'm not after a PRS type guitar first and foremost. I'm after a guitar in that price range that I enjoy playing and looking at.
I couldn't buy that yellow one, even though it looks like a good deal. It's yellow. I have a rule. No yellow. And the name 'Fame' doesn't appeal to me either, although that makes me feel stupid. :hihi: It's about the same price range, and the original price they're quoting on all those look inflated though, don't they?

I don't know. It's a big thing, and I want to get it right.
PRS does have a pretty good resell value, so I could always trade it if I don't like it.

I'm going for the PRS SE, I guess. I don't think a good alternative counts as advice against, it's just ... well ... alternatives. So thanks, man.

I checked prices in Holland, because I'm going there next week, and I could probably get some good deals, but then I'd have to
a) spend at least half a day (out of a measly five) shopping for guitar, and that's NOT family friendly.
b) Drag a guitar around on planes and airports, when we've got an eight months old boy who's learned how to get around :D
c) Pay 25% in customs, eating up most of the savings anyway.

I decided I'd pay the extra cash for the freedom from hassle on my trip. Plus I'll have the bonus of a customer relationship with the nearby guitar shop.

And I want to buy it NOW!

congrats...;)
The highest form of knowledge is empathy, for it requires us to suspend our egos and live in another's world. It requires profound, purpose‐larger‐than‐the‐self kind of understanding.

Just out of curiosity: How much did you pay?

And now you've got it, disappearing for twelve hours a day to play it, is family friendly? :hihi:

That seems to be a good price.
Should have a look into one one day too.
