FWIW, I got my email about half a day after the beta opened up. I'd've lost out, but I was also checking the forum now and then and happened to catch it at the right time.

Yeah, I mean basically these guys are working all hours getting Live 5 ready for release. I posted a bug two days ago (mid-evening) and wihtin three hours they had released a new beta version which solved the problem I raised. It was past 11pm in Berlin at the time.
They have thousdands of registered users worldwide, and the Ableton newsletter uses up a vast amount of server time. I've usually had the notifications but not for several hours. Checking their forum can be your responsibility if it is important to you to be involved here.
As far as Ableton are going though, it is definitely out of place to slag them off right now. Trust me - these guys deserve a serious raise/bonus for the excessive hours they are putting in to make this whole thing work

Sweet! Ableton sure does a good job squishing bugs!
I wonder how soon before it's a full public beta.

Anyone else having trouble with the Ableton forum??? Just after they released beta9, seems like the server is down.

Not yet, but I think they are gearing up for that shortly.
The latest beta announcement comes with a warning that they are going to be "severer" in dealing with posts on the beta forum - only properly presented bug reports will be responded to, not discussions/requests/etc about the feature set. There have been a couple of pointless threads on the beta forum but for the most part it has been used sensibly by testers. I think that the warning is there in preparation for the likely onslaught of newbie-type questions when the beta goes totally public, which points to it being any day now.
