when (if? do 'they do it like this'??) you go to an independent artists' website to purchase music, what do you expect from the payment system?

you pay and get the filed emailed to you, or an email with a url, or redirected to html with an url.. what do you expect/what's the norm?

sorry, i dont buy music, and have a friend (double) who needs to sell some, except i have no idea what the f**k im supposed to make for a webpage because i dont know anyone irl who has the cash to pay for music online

so what do you rich people expect when you do that?

I'd expect a CD / vinyl snailmailed to my home.

Mp3's are cool as previews.

Ok, so seriously- I think a nice, thanksforbuying e-mail with download links to be the coolest.

I dunno if it helps, but I use Beatport quite a bit and there you make your payment and are redirected to a page with download links. If you're doing it on a small scale, is it not feasible to do it manually, i.e. take payment via paypal and then email download links to customers?

I have bought some music online, and I think you have mentioned only some of the options :D

I prefer to pay by some system where I have a user name and they remember me (PayPal, for instance, although I know some people hate it - don't know why). That way I don't have to find my cards and stuff. And of course you have to have a credit card option for those who don't have and don't want a Paypal (or whatever) account.

Then I prefer to wait a minimal amount of time and get a pretty CD in the mail. If all I get is files, I want those files to be encoded in a proper manner with high bitrate, and I want them zipped together with artwork so I don't have to download the songs one by one. And I want them to be named so they sort themselves correctly in Winamp (or whatever). I don't want track 11 to be played before track 2.
BTW - I'm on broadband (who isn't?), so I would prefer to download an ISO and burn my own full quality CD.
If I'm taken to a website where I can download it, I don't want to have to register and become a member of anything. I have paid, so I want to be emailed a link that takes me directly to the place where I can download the zip archive. Better yet, I want to be taken directly to the place with the download as soon as the payment is OK'd, no email. I realize there's a security issue there...

No more, no less.
Since I'm paying, I want no hassle. I can put up with registering and shite if stuff is free, but as soon as I give up my credit card number I'm a CUSTOMER, and I expect to be treated with respect and that things are made simple and friendly. Which means you give me alternatives, not ultimatums, and no hassle and definately no ads or piggybacked newsletters. Just because I buy someone's CD does NOT mean I'm interested in the record company or the website. Nope.

That's what I think.

And I'm NOT rich, so don't make it expensive.
