ST2 L to XL - what are the main differences in the sound set

It's increasingly likely that I'll go for Philharmonik in the near future (I've had some good advice on buying a new PC from the KvR forums and so should save myself a bit of money there) but I am also very tempted by the ST2 L to XL (v2.1) sounds offer.
I've looked at the IK site but can't find a simple summary of what the differences in sound set are between ST2 L and XL, so it's hard for me to know whether or not the upgrade is worth it.
Please note that I'm *not* trying to judge based on the value of going from v2 sounds to v2.1 sounds. I would just appreciate a simple summary which says, for example, "ST2 L gives you x drum kits, y guitars, z basses ... whilst ST2 XL gives you xx drum kits, yy guitars, zz basses ...".
Obviously if I go down this route I'll get a double benefit - more sounds and better sounds. It seems too early to get an idea of how much better the sounds will be so I thought I'd start by simply finding out how many more there were!
Does such a simple comparision exist somewhere?
Regards,
Derek.

counting basses, drum kits and so forth is a lot of work, man.
But from looking at the installation process, while first installing ST2L sounds, then playing a little with it and then installing the other 4 CDs, I had the impression that it's nicely spread over the categories, meaning you basically get a choice of 2x for each category. But don't nail me down, I didn't count thru 1500 patches of however much it may be.

Agreed - I wasn't looking for anyone to count the sounds for me, just for a pointer to somewhere where such information already exists!
I already crinimally underuse the sounds in ST2 L so maybe XL just gives me more great sounds to not use

Derek.

LOL. Underuse? What's the definition of underuse? Are you saying you have't made a dedicated tune for every single sounds yet?Derek up North wrote:Agreed I already crinimally underuse the sounds in ST2 L so maybe XL just gives me more great sounds to not use![]()

It's the choice of sounds to fit the tune and/or enhance your inspirations, that's what numbers of sounds are for me - more options to fit the song.

Not sure if you're aware of this but there is a complete listing of all the sounds in L and XL here: http://www.sampletank.com/
Back when I was trying to decide between L and XL, my impression from going through these lists was that L was more limited to bread and butter sounds, while XL had more ethnic sounds among other things.
Edit: Now that I look at the listing for L again, it looks like there are quite a few ethnic sounds there, so perhaps the difference is really one of more variations on the same instruments.

Thanks Frunobulax (Zappa fan by any chance??).
I think I'll wait until the 2.1 sounds are out and see what people think of the improvements then. This has the added benefit of helping me to justify the Philharmonik purchase!

Let's just say that instead of going to my high school prom, I stayed home and listened to my first FZ album (Live at the Filmore). Thusly I embarked upon the path I now trod.Derek up North wrote:Thanks Frunobulax (Zappa fan by any chance??).
Undoubtedly the 2.1 upgrade will change the equation somewhat. I'm looking forward to seeing what Squids has in store for us.Derek up North wrote:I think I'll wait until the 2.1 sounds are out and see what people think of the improvements then.
