TristezaOrange wrote:ps. I have music that is certainly NOT upbeat - listen to 'Dusk Falls on The Wasteland' or 'Black Lawn and Darkest Dreams' on my IUMA site and you won't find a trace of the genial and upbeat Trist Orange :D
Well, of course, it did seem odd to see an artist named Tristeza Orange making upbeat music. There had to be a catch :D

Well, we're pretty different, then. My music gets darker and more agressive when summer comes. That's what happens when you're someone like me, constantly locked inside the bedroom to hide from the sun...

THAT EVIL FRIGGIN SUN!!!!!!!!!!! :x DEATH KILL KILL KILL DEATH

Nice to hear you again, wilkoryte. i was just thinking about you the other day, wondering whether you'd enter the contest one day again. And now you're in, cool! 8)

Nah. Banjos after sunset.

Is this a reference to Monkey Island?

Sorry, whenever I hear the words duel and banjo in the same sentence I think of the third Monkey Island game. I spent something like 1 whole week trying to beat the other pirate's little songs on the banjo. Then I spent 3 weeks trying to figure out what to do when he starts playing heavy metal(yes, I know). ONE MONTH OF MY LIFE SPENT TRYING TO OUT-BANJO ANOTHER PIRATE!!! THAT'S CRAZY!!! I COULD HAVE BEEN ENJOYING LIFE AND THE BEAUTIFUL WEATHER BUT NOOOOO!!!!! I KEPT ON WORKING ON BANJOS!!! BANJOS SCHMANJOS!!!!11

BANJOS!!! :bang:
BANJOS!!! :bang:
BANJOS!!! :bang:
BANJOS!!! :bang:
BANJOS!!! :bang:

:x

So yeah, it's hard for me not to think of Monkey Island. :)

Haha - I've been caught in a couple of those games in my life, too. I don't remember how long it took me to realize I had to put the sweater in the clothes drier and put a million quarters in it so I could pick it up in the future, hamster sized... Anyone else go through that one?

I don't generally approve of banjos.

Ideally it starts and ends in 2 minutes: this gives you a bit of a challenge to tighten up the arrangement to say what you need in the allotted time!

If you go too long, you'll have to fade the end to 2 minutes. That gets tricky because people in the past have attempted to enter longer old tunes as if they were written for the contest by fading the end!

(And then there's Lady J's entry this month, who decided we were too stupid to notice that she took an old tune and faded *both* the start *and* the end! Lazy arse couldn't even be bothered to open her sequencer to at least make a distinct beginning...)

There are times where a fade is appropriate, and I think most people can recognize it instinctively by what's happening in the instrumentation. So it won't disqualify you, so long as you make it sound natural.

Though I must say, if I'm voting on two songs that are tied in my estimation, I always rate a song with a distinct end higher than a fader, as it represents more effort and care. ;)

Absolutely right. It seems she was absessed being the first one to enter her track this month. Therefore she took an old song.
