I'll keep it simple. Is the compressor onboard the channel strip plug (GAC) of the same quality as the GCO single compressor plug? Or are the sum parts in GAC mere shadows of their singular selves?
This will influence a buying decision.

Torben has always said that GCO-1 is the flagship compressor. It has more features - except for the critically important new features (like side chain) which it lacks, so I am baffled too. It would appear that Torben wants you to buy them all to get the features you need - probably fair enough, but Torben denies that is the case. I'm sitting on the fence on this one, hoping for something better to come along.

According to Torben GAC is "temporarily ahead" of GCO as far as side chain feature but this won't last long.

My feelings exactly. I own the flagship, and don't feel I should have to buy the lesser product just for side chain capability.greendoor wrote:Torben has always said that GCO-1 is the flagship compressor. If it's true GCO-1 will be updated with sidechaining soon, I will be a happy camper.

Yes, Please implement sidechain and wet/dry mix in GCO! That would make it a true "flagship" product.

most host cant do wet/dry no. FLS can tho..and u can easily do something like that in eXT as well. OR u can route in your host and putting the compressor as Send. that also works.

The flagship compressor should have wet/dry mix. It's almost a standard proceedures these days to mix in a compressed vocal with the original uncompressed vocal. It's best done with wet/dry mix to ensure 100% phase coherance. Probably not an issue with good VST hosts, but definately an issue with some.

it really should be a standard in every host to have wet/dry.

The short answer is that the quality of the compressors is the same but the GCO-1 is more versatile.ancoats wrote:I'll keep it simple. verstaerker, doing a mix in the Host between the dry signal and the wet from a compressor might not always be the best idea. In some cases there might be phase considerations other than the latency. The best way is always to mix inside the compressor itself.
