By the way, XTC seems to not get along with some hosts, but you can in fact get any Creamware device to work in XTC mode (including Mod III patches, 3rd party plugins, etc. even though Creamware says this is not possible/supported). You just have to do a simple little trick and any plugin should work fine. (copy one of the existing effect xtc DLL files, and rename it to the same name as the CW plugin you wish to use in XTC mode, and it should work!)

Yes, discovering this has given new life to my cards so I work mainly in XTC-mode now.
There are three VST/DEV/MDL-wrappers available from CW. One for mono effects, one for stereo effects and one for synths. I wish they would release one for multiple inputs/outputs so I could use the CW mixers in a modular host like Tracktion or eXP. That would be incredible.
You could also load any device inside the mixers, and automate as pleased.

Say, I've been reading the H Central reviews of the Pulsars and people as recent as last year were complaining about no Win XP driver. Is this still the case????

They're morons if they claim that. I've been on XP for 2-3 years with the Pulsar II. I never would have swithced to XP if there were no XP drivers. No idea what they're talking about. You got a link that shows this?

it's funny, there often seems to be this pool of non-users who feel they are qualified to comment on creamware gear. this absurd xp claim looks like part of that.

creamware gear works perfectly with xp

"I am commenting on the reviews I have been reading and my past experience with creamware.
I bought a Pulsar when they recieved rave reviews from Keyboard and Electronic musician(US) and Computer Music(UK) magazines. I added the additional synth and sampler programs for it.
I loved the sound and power but when the drivers for more stable operating systems never came and I got tired of having to choose between an unstable windows operating system to run pulsar and waiting for drivers to use it on a stable windows (2000/XP) i took the loss for my pulsar and sold it for under $200.
I wanted to see if the software driver issues had been fixed and see they are asbad as they have always been.
Guess i don't miss my Pulsar as much as I thought I did...as I told them then...other more responsive and stable companies want my money too, i will buy SUPPORTED products instead!"

But looking again at the reviews, I saw someone refer to this reviewer as "off their rocker."

Still, though, there are a number of reviews complaining about near nonexistent support and sllloww updates.

I seriously doubt they support GSIF 2.0 for Giga, which will be a pain because I'll have to switch back to my M-Audio card for low latency use of GS3.

Still, though, I'm very likely to buy the project card. I found it for $650 new.

perhaps you didn't notice, but a lot of the comments on that thread go back to the year 2000 !

Personally speaking, I think anyone who runs GS on anything but a dedicated machine is crazy. ;) GS has had its own machine for me since 2001 or so. I've had very few issues because of it, and the biggest advantage is if it craps out on you, you only lose your loaded patches, not your whole song loaded into your sequencer. ;)

From what I recall Creamware cards do have GSIF.

I don't know about the quality of it because I don't use GS at all. But I'm almost certain that it is included on the cards.

That one was from about a year ago, though. I didn't think it made sense for them not to have XP compatibility this late, but with all the complaints about the company being a little "out of touch", I panicked a little.

GSIF 2.0 is new with GS3 and has the kernel level MIDI implementation, which is much faster. Older GSIF doesn't have it.

'Tis true, a second computer would be nice. With ReWire 2.0 I do okay in Tracktion 2, but I have to do a lot of rendering rather than run many instances of GS in a sequencer. Even with a dedicated PC, I assume you need a powerful one with a fast HD to do a lot of complicated sequencing with GS3.

A second PC is in the future, but I think I'll go for Creamware first since it will offer both extra hardware and extra software.

I bought a Luna card when I was switching hosts/reconfiguring my studio.

I found it can be a pain in the ass. The fact is, current users are going to tell you everything is fine because they want sales to carry the development of the card.

Be prepared for a nightmare when it comes to registration. The shop/registration part of the creamware site goes down every weekend like clockwork. Sometimes it comes back up on monday, sometimes (in my case) not till thursday. While I did email a couple of people at creamware for my registration, that took over a week. From delivery to the card working in my computer, it took a little over three weeks. The card is really picky about the IRQ, newer motherboards and there really is no support other than this:

http://www.planetz.com/forums/index.php

After the release of harware by creamware recently, and no news of updates or future upgrades, I'm beginning to think that it's a slowly dying company. While there are great plugs for the system, many of them are waaay overpriced. Some of the timeworx reverbs are in the hundreds of dollars. Another issue is DSP use. No one will put up a chart about how much certain plugs/synths use because it really is outrageous compared to UAD/Powercore cards (yes, I know these cards are newer). Most people will tell you that if you are serious about the system, the minimum is a 14 dsp card. That way you could put it to some significant use. When I had the Luna, a majority of the modular patches I tried wouldn't even load because I didn't have enough dsp.

Definitely get your hands on a used one and test it out. I wouldn't buy one new. The whole thing felt a bit like when I used Cubase. You have users that are totally happy and have had relatively few problems. But, you also have users that have completely show stopping bugs that no one can figure out. Very hit and miss.

That all being said, the synths were some of the best synths that I've heard. What modular patches I could get to run sounded amazing, but Reaktor has really surpassed anything in the modular with version 5.

I don't have a lot of money or time to waste when it comes to music. I found the better deal for me was to set up another machine, which is cheaper than the card, and use fx teleport. Between fx teleport, and my UAD/Powercore, I don't miss my Luna at all. If I had a few thousand to blow and set up a few dozen dsp, it might have been a different story.

It's true, you can't really do much other than routing and tracking with a Luna card.

I started of with a Pulsar II and later bought another one of eBay cheap. That's 12 DSPs total. It really helps when doing advanced mixes with multiple reverbs etc.

They have GSIF but not GSIF2 as yet. I'm wondering if some of the confusion over XP support is hereday based on a combination of old threads and the fact that they don't yet have full OSX support - that is a problem for some people. It works fine for me on XP (even SP 2)
