Hey guys, I have an ART tube mp opl, and for some reason before I really get any decent output on any mic I hook up, I get a huge amout of hum. I was wondering if there were any good vst mic preamps out there so I can just hook my mic directly into the computer for recording.

Thanks.

No. Its not possible: the mic signal needs to be amplified dramatically before it can be converted to digital audio.. but the signal has to be digital before you can run it through any plugins! ;)

Your hum is most likely to be caused by bad cables: check you have balanced cable runs wherever possible (esp from the mic to the pre-amp), and keep audio cables away from mains cables if you can..

Wow, your right. What a dumbass, I didnt even think about that. It has to be digital first.

Sorry bout that.

Well, he already has a mic pre-amp that should be capable of providing a clean signal, and probably sounds better than most built-in mic pre-amps..

What is that?

ShaolinDrunkard: If it turns out it's not your cables and you need a preamp solution, make sure you check out the Studio Projects VTB1. Sounds awesome and is cheap as dirt!

Thanks!

I have a very similar unit (if not the same?)-- the Tube MP StudioV3. If you have to crank it into levels of hum, either you are doing something wrong or your unit is defective.
