see my sig...it ain't a joke, a bit sarcastic, but...you said it best...
I think your sig absurd and suggests you're about 15 years old  34 years I've been playing...here's a little timeline for you

teens...wanting to learn and being overwhelmed, never believing I had it right but close enough..still I was trying to learn amoungst (myself included) teenagers who didn't have a clue.

20's...actively persuing bands playing and havine fun, but still a child musically.

early to mid 30's... acceptance that I wasn't gonna be a rock star. But I began to appreciate and be humbled by my talent instead of using it to be above and better then everyone else. I was becoming a musical adult.

The last 10 years...the most enjoyable I have had as a person, artist and a musician...now that childish crap, pettyness, need for attenetion, thinking that I can be better then someone else (sorry when it comes to art you cant be) and any egotistical attitudes are gone I am now actually enjoying my music. I have grown up musically and the rewards out weigh any money you can put in front of me.

In times of great stress, anger, pain, happiness, fear...my music has always been there...that can't be bought.

Your sig suggest you are a busician, not a musician...you can be an artist and not sell out and still be talented...the fact you suggest otherwise is assinine and setting yourself up to fail.

In short read my sig...that's keeping it real... 8)
The highest form of knowledge is empathy, for it requires us to suspend our egos and live in another's world. It requires profound, purpose‐larger‐than‐the‐self kind of understanding.

Great post hink, and a great argument for learning music theory. :hihi:

I know I wont be famous, and during the past 2 years, I have come to accept and appreciate that. I have recorded maybe 3 songs that I would call "finished" in this period, but I have become competant on 3 instruments. (guitar, bass, and piano) I get way more enjoyment sitting down and playing someone elses tune, or trying to figure out my next 50% finished idea, or just trying to play a strange scale. Music is my refuge from the mundane, I get great enjoyment by sitting at my piano and belting out hey jude at the top of my lungs(I am 100% certain my neighbors hate me :hihi:) If I never finish a song ever again who gives a shit, I love playing music, and I will for the rest of my life. I have no more artificial deadlines to finsh an album.

Hey, you too? Howdy. :-D

Obviously if the descision is between two (or more) possible outcomes and it's hard to choose between them, then it really shouldn't make any difference. The irony is, that the harder it is to decide, the easier it really should be since the different outcomes are so closely matched.
That's actually quite brilliant. I never thought about it that way. I think it's totally right. Cheers!

1. Always use lubricant

You can suffer quite alot before taking that one to heart. ;)

2. Happiness is the hidden behind the obvious

This was a phrase coined by myself and was accidentally very profound to me. It has been my catch-phrase ever since. I guess this was advice I gave to myself.

As for best advice in music.......

Not really sure actually. I must not get much of that.

I like the advice on plastic bags 'To avoid danger of suffocation, keep away from small children'.

Well, until our first was born 7 years ago, that's exactly what I did. Wouldn't go near 'em. I now have 3 children 7 and under, and whilst I am obviously under threat of asphixiation, I seem to be doing OK.

uhhh... dude, you don't know me, and i wasn't speaking to you... but now you are speaking to me, so i'll answer.... you seem to think i'm taking a poke at guys like you and that ain't the case. my reply toward lady j was a simple "i get it"... some things in life aren't simply black and white....

i was gonna give you my whole life story (like you did) to try and defend my position but i'm not guilty of anything so i'm not going to bother... i will say that i have gotten a lot of help on kvr and have tried to make sure i thank those who help me, perhaps you are one of those, i know you post here a lot, you may have helped me, if you did, thanks....

i have also thrown around a few smart-ass comments/jokes (there seems to be a free-spirit attitude on kvr and i like that), and also my opinions on music/art/society/what have you. I've always made a point to make clear i wish not to offend, i have opinions and so do others. Alert the media....people might not agree on stuff!

I also made a point of checking out your site to get a handle on where you're coming from and it did help. I think it's great that you have fun making music, and aren't afraid to sing within your limits and you know it might not be the best, but you're still putting it out there proudly. It gives me the feeling i shouldn't be so vain and just "let your freak flag fly" as they say....but, based on your little tirade/life story or whatever you call it, and your music, i get the feeling you won't get my shit, you'll be the critic, you'll brow and chest beat, i just don't need it...

As far as my sig, maybe my reply to lady j wasn't accurate... maybe i shouldn't have said "i'm serious" but IT'S THE TRUTH...look at Mark Mothersbaugh for example...Devo made a career commenting on society in a clever, pointed, sarcastic, and ROCK n' ROLL manner. i love that early shit, i really identify with some of that stuff...Now he's probably making a ton more money producing a varying degree of soundtrack/spot work...youv'e got "Rugrats" and youv'e got "Rushmore"...did he sell out? Not sure, but if he did it's because HE CAN... he has TALENT... i don't have as much or at least the same talent he has....

My sig is MINE not yours... i don't like yours either but i'd never be so impolite to someone i don't even know....look back to my "advice" on opinions.....

and no, i'm not 15, wish i was (if i only knew then what i know now)

take care,
rg

Well ross sorry if I mistook your sig to mean those who dont sell out is because they can't...I guess it was just symantics...however reading what you wrote there is one minor flaw...you make it sound like only people with talent sell out, and often I'm sure it is the case. But without having figures to back me up I would assume just as many people sell out because they don't have enough talent. There are plenty of talentless sellouts...;)
you'll be the critic, you'll brow and chest beat, i just don't need it...
apprently you didn't understand my sig, perhaps that's why you dont like it
