Aleksey...your the coolest. Thanks

You are welcome! :)

Nice! SPAN is shaping up to be THE best meter around! Now it just needs a kewl stereo spread metering ala Waves meter (aka fancy graphical goniometer).

Cheers!

Also a good idea is VU on Span :)

Nice one Aleksey.

bmanic, if you (or anybody else) know any URLs that discuss approaches to stereo correlation metering, please let me know.

dimitar, VU is eye candy. :) I do not see how it can be practically more useful than RMS and PeakRMS meters.

yeah, a VU meter would be a bit pointless.

Aleksey - this isn't about stereo correlation metering but the adjustment of...if you look down at the bottom of the page at the Waves S1 I find this to be a pretty interesting adjustment interface. The Behringer DEQ2496 has this also even though the controls are similar as to what PSP Stereo Control and C_SuperStereo have. Those plugs use stereo correlation scope and phase metering.

I'm wondering if Voxengo correlation metering would maybe go beyond the typical and include rotation, assym, phase (of both channels), etc.

TO do my latest stereo rebalancing trick I've had to use Moneo (thanks betabugs!) -> MSED (Encode) perform gain balance -> MSED (decode). So you can see that I used Moneo to straighten out the broken stereo balance, then MSED to balance the m/s. It does no good to use m/s processing on a stream where the mid is no good in the first place! The "problem" is I couldn't see what I was doing - I had to use my ears - I know I'm supposed to use ears - but metering makes me feel certain things are repeatable!

Wow! Thanks Aleksey. Amazing customer service. It must be about time I bought another one of your products - i've been thinking about adding Lampthruster recently ... cheers!

Kyle, I was thinking about adding a stereo phase meter to SPAN - not an adjustment tool.

Actually, I was always wondering WHAT these stereo correlation/stereo phase meters measuring?

This article goes into moderate depth about metering, including a vectorscope (phase and correlation).

I've always wondered what they were measuring too. My earlier rambling post is confusing, sorry - I already have tools to make the adjustment - I just don't have metering so I can see the differences that I'm hearing.

For example I ended up using C_SuperStereo to fix a board mix where the vocals were off to the side too far. The controls I used were Input Rotate (26 degrees), Left Balance +26%, Right Balance -26%, Middle +11%, Output Width 116%. I also centered the bass using a slope starting at 50 Hz. The sound is a huge improvement but I can't see any trace of it in my metering using normal stereo scopes.

Of the controls involved that manage stereo positioning I'm wondering what type of metering could reflect changes - or is controlling the stereo field too arbitrary for more specific metering that would reflect rotate, assym and other controls I pointed to in the article above.

Kyle, I think stereo metering usually available are good for average estimation. Your example shows they can't tell much about quality of the stereo field.

bmanic, thanks for the link. Phase and vectorscope were known to me. Jellyfish display is something new - however, not much information was provided on it in the article (in comparison to phase and vectorscope).

I hate it when I have to use my ears ! :D

bmanic or anyone - do you know who makes the audio vectorscope in the SOS article - I couldn't figure it out...
