Hello, I'm looking for an easy, stable Wave editor
allowing me to experiment with sounds I want to
synchrosize to my visuals.

So a video window would be necessary and as the
sound consists of atmospheric, distorted and
layered samples *without* any rhytmical pattern,
I wonder if you would have a tip for me.

I don't need/want a broad package like Reason with
lots of Synths and stuff, as I only use samples,
as I said, but want to be a able to twist them
the way I like...

I used to use an old version of Magix Music Maker,
but that was ages ago and times probably have
changed :)

What do you think of Audacity for example?

Thanks in advance, Rs :)

Post

Ah, yes some nice filters for creating wide stereo,
deep bass and complex floating soundscapes would be
really helpful. I know I haven't done anything in
ages, but I want to start (again) well equipped and
ready to learn ...

Audacity wont give you much flexibility AFAIK, tried FL Studio or Tracktion?

i believe someone released a plugin that can sync winamp to your host's timeline. check the news section for what it's called, i can't remember... but that should mean that you can get an external video window for most hosts, and you should try it with a demo of whichever host you find.
Kick, punch, it's all in the mind.

Try Sony Vegas 6. Awesome audio-only multitrack. And if you want to edit the video too, well that's easy... ;)

Post

I second vegas. I still use version 4.0 as my mixdown DAW. Great ease of use.

Vegas is the best audio-only multitrack.

Too bad Sony can't seem to figure that out.

Post

Thanks for the fast answers, always thought
that Vegas is only for video editing, not sound ...
but it even offers 5.1 support!

About FL Studio - is the WAV functionality broad,
on their website it looks like they are more focussed
on sound generation not arranging... price-wise
it's definiately an interesting thing ...

Tracktion is new to me, looks like Combustion with
it's unified user interfaces ...

So I have to read a little more, if you have more
additions, don't stop to post ;) Comments on Live,
Nuendo, Sound Forge could be helpful, too...

Also take a look at Adobe Audition, which support 128 audio-only traks and a video thumbnail and full screen. Very powerful audio recording, editing, mastering, syncing up to video, etc.

Here:

The demo allows unrestricted use for 30 days. It won't take you that long to want to buy it though

Yeah - I would think Audition was a pretty cool idea.

Anyone know if you can do cool things like add EnergyXT as a VSTfx plug-in and use that for the midi along with Audition for audio?

Just curious.

I would second that. Audition is very easy to get into, but has some very deep features.

Right, former Cool Edit Pro is a option, I'll check their
feature list! Thanks ...
