However, there seems to be an incompatibility with the oldcab plugin and the cakewalk vst adapter: the adapter crashes when scanning the plug and reports the failure point as main call. It does work fine in Samplitude 8 though.
I don't own this adapter, so it's hard to check. Anyway could you download it again and check if it works now?
Just checked it, unfortunately it's still the same :(
If you want I could help you tracking down the problem. You could prepare a debug build that creates a logfile or sth. so that you might see where exactly it's crashing. pm me if interested ;-)

I can't get nice clean sounds though... Can anyone suggest a clean setting that has worked for him?
I normaly play with a lot of gain, so I havn't put as much work in the clean sounds.
Now, this is the answer to my question.
When I test a new amp plug I usually test the clean sound first. I read somewhere the clean sound is easier to do and with Cortex I was a little surprised 'cause the clean sound sounded a little dull (for my ears at least).
I always thought the problem was me.

HE thanks for grate plug. It's still one of the best out there and I use it very often.

Just did so. Thanks.

Ok two quick things, I'm not have any problems getting the cab sim to load in Sonar using the latest version of the adapter. Second, Mman, try this for a clean setting:

Blues preamp
Gain: 3.7
Tube/SS: 0
Low: 6.8
Mid: 3.4
Mid Freq: 7.6
Treb: 6.2
Pres: 6.2
EQ: Guitifier EQ
Boost: Full
Vol: you can set this one yourself
Quality: High

w/ OldCab settings:
SP1: 4Fen vol 0.8
SP2: 4Fen vol 0.8
Quality: High

That's a very pleasant and jangly clean sound on my 72 Tele Duluxe reissue w/ the treb pickup. You'll probably need to tweak this sound a bit for your guitar but it should be a good starting point for you.
I'm sorry this post wasn't about techno.

Ok, while I'm hear might as well make some suggestions. Helium, while I love the idea of having a seperate cab plug-in, it's not convenient in that once I get a sound I have to save the presets in two seperate plug-ins (I don't have a plug-in Chainer either per se). What I'd recomend is integrating the Cabs back into the main plug-in, but have an option to bypass them entirely, then ALSO release the cabs as a seperate plug-in, giving users the best of both worlds. Also, are these cabs based on impulses or are you trying to model them? If it's the latter, would you also be able to give us mic positions (I know I'm asking a lot for a freebie). It'd be cool to have some mics that I could throw off axis and move closer and further from the cabs (I really like how Guitar Rig handles this, but they also need a way to lock the phase of the two mics).

Anyway time to praise you. I had the old version in my plug-in folder for a while but never got around to using it and I'm now kicking myself in the ass for letting it sit there. Job well f**king done on this. I'm really a dick when it comes to amp sims, and this one is absolutely top notch. I can't wait to see what else you do with this.

BTW, here's my suggestion for a new name: Heliamp.
I'm sorry this post wasn't about techno.

I use Cortex a lot when I am playing guitar. For an amp sim it doesn't sound like someone is sawing on the guitar.
Many thanks, it's great! :)

Will try this settings.

hmmm, I have to think about that.

Or you could always do it all in one plug-in with the ability to bypass the amp when needed, or the cab when needed. I definately think the amp and cab should be in the same plug-in though just to make it easier to save/recall sounds. Just a suggestion...

I agree on the one-plug idea with each of the parts bypass-able. That'd be just nice.
There are 3 kinds of people:
Those who can do maths and those who can't.

I'll do that as soon as Cortex get's it's own GUI. Otherwise there are just too many controls which is pretty confusing.

Anyway I did a small update (same link as before).

The new plugin "Vowler" is still in a very early stage.

Yes Helium - just a bypass would be fine.

Uhm ... I did a post 20 minutes before you. Maybe you haven't seen it :?

Oops - I wasn't clear from your post that you had addressed this idea of retaining speaker emulation in the plugin but making it defeatable. If so - thanks a heap. I have downloaded the new version and check it out.

Thanks,
