Is that how it works? Plenty of room in my Inbox, so that's probably the reason. An angry response from someone I've cussed out in a review, I expect.Wopelka wrote:or maybe the sender deleted the PM in their Outbox page before you had a chance to read it.

Yup
I PM'd you, Barnadine, because I saw your review in the July Review thread, and I didn't want to just post a reply to you in that thread, since we are trying to keep that thread for reviews only..
Right after Pm'ing you I noticed that you also posted your reviews in the gossip thread, so I decided to just talk to you in the Gossip thread instead
Noticing that you had not yet opened my PM, I copied the content of the PM, marked the PM, and deleted it.. and then pasted the content of the PM in the Gossip thread..
And that ain't nothin but the truth..

thanks for the review barnadine
i really need to spend more time working on that sort of thing. it seems the more laid back sections of my last few electronica/dance type songs (im never sure what to call the styles im working in) have been the best parts. (this was the previous one.) i should probably stop trying to write densely packed, higher energy stuff for a while and let myself explore some more open and relaxed pieces again.
i over bassed an earlier version of the mix, so i ended up over compensating this time and under bassed it. i couldnt tell though because the only place i can check those frequencies is in my car and its sub wasnt working properly at the time. it got fixed up sunday evening so i didnt realize that the mix was quite so weak in bass until then. since i cant resubmit, once the comp is over i'll try to fix the mix. (im thinking about building it out into a full length song anyway.)
but im very glad to hear that my personal voice/vibe was able to come through in the track. i was hoping that would be the case and that the track wouldnt end up being too terribly trite.

i totally agree. The mix feels a bit weak on the bass during the climaxes, and the main kick could be louder, I think.

thanks...yeah i totally cheated and went for some really obvious formulas...especially the building part at 0.40. its a total cliché but one i hadnt worked with before, and it fit so well that i thought 'oh what the hell' and used it anyway.Recognisably a formula dance song, but you've added a personal voice to the formula. Apocalyptic. Nice one.

Review The Reviewers

Yep -- this month, after all the reviewers are done, I'm going to review their reviews... i.e. style, wit, grace, poise, charm and, most of all, constructiveness and good advice-ism (zat a word yet?
)

Cheers,
Alex

thanks a lot barnadine,Barnadine wrote:Even more:
rsmus7/Poddies Dance - Some nice squelching going on here. A bit over-reliant on those arp patterns. A repeated arpeggio with different base notes isn't quite the same as a developed melody. Without human variation it tends to sap away the forward movement, although I do like it when things become more dissonant towards the end. The synth break is a nice spacious reprieve, though afterwards we fall straight back into the same arp pattern. Nice sounds though, Feels like the sort of dance that involves a lot of giddy whirling round in circles. Your mixing has become so much cleaner since you last used to enter these contests. Leaps and bounds.
I agree in all points, very good analysis.
As I said dance music is not my cup, I´m much too slow on my keyboard to play a human variation, so I need the arp to help me.
And I´m already satisfied that it is recognized as a kind of dancy tune.
And I´m happy to see that my mixing is improved, I learned a lot the last monthes, and it seems to show a bit
ahhmm... what means leaps and bounds? I´m not a native speaker, sorry.

Thanks. I made the kick loud because of the hip hop in this. I always thought of hip hop as bass heavy. Of course, I rarely make a good judgement of my own stuff, so thanks for pointing it out.ugo wrote:Katanaman - DANCE WITH MOI
i love vibe of this track. its slippery and robotic at the same time with a great funky vibe. however the kick might be a bit too forward. well done though.![]()

Sheesh. I managed to finish a piece just in time...leaving for holiday on Friday.
I'm downloading all the tracks so far and plan to visit an Internet cafe so I can listen to the rest and vote. Might not be able to get any reviews in this month, but I'll try.
