I was wondering exactly the same !

This thing reminds me of the late 80's, with the release of Fractint. I love these zooming things and I don't fear Big Bro'. So come on Google, gimme more of these !

i've spent a couple of hours with Google Earth tonight.
great!

if this thing becomes as popular as Google is, it may change something deep inside our intuitive geographical projections. i mean: we all know that the earth is a sphere but we usually think in 2D, given the traditional plane map. A plane map designer has to make choices: what part is in the centre? what continents are privilegied? what deformations to get it all flat? Now with Google and that rolling sphere, there's no up and down, centre and corners anymore, just the plain earth. And plus: the relief: just go travelling through the Alpine valleys (or in the Himalaya ones) in semi-horizontal view... gorgeous!!!

i agree with wopelka ... bollocks to all the security stuff ... flying this thing round the globe is a blast !!!

once ALL the globe is as detailed as the US photos this thing will be incredible ...

... showed it to all the geography staff at school and they obviously love it ,,, but the real measure i rackon is the (geeky) english techer who said once id sent him the link "and i thought the internet had lost the ability to truly surprise me" ...

... global village indeed (maybe ... ) ...
