I just stumbled upon a bunch of drum banks in soundfonts that I've had forever. I had no idea there were extra ones in the 'font. Is there any low-cost (read: free) utility that will examine SF2's and list the extra banks? If not, why aren't they all in sequence (Bank1, Bank2, etc?) - why is there such a huge separation between numbered banks? Or am I missing something?

You could try the emu site to see if soundfont librarian is still available

Thank you! I did find it on E-Mu's site, but not through search (I finally located it through Google.
