They are family the way you and I are... Brother!

'All under heaven' ... I love you man!

I think this deserves to be mentioned:

"Now how old are you
where is your harbour
have many things to do
open the door.

Yes I live so true
without my lover
but tell me if the sky is blue
How old are you?"

Post

Been bugging you for 20 years has it, Katanaman? Miko Mission must be proud!

one of the most stupid lyrics is from obnoxious band 'crowded house'. the lyric

if you leave me,
can i come too ?
and if you go,
can i come too ?'

and that's the chorus !

rhyming 'too' and 'too' ?

Founded in 1959 as The Skiffle Lords, renamed The Lords, still touring and recording ... at least those who survived. They had a few hits in Germany during the sixties (in English). One of them was "Poor Boy".

Well they had it wrong in German but they knew how to translate that without further mistakes ...

"My mother worked each day and she learned me to say ..."

Regards,

Tommy

My all-time favourite is on the current Icon of Coil album:
"Of all the big mistakes I've done"
Its funny because its the first line of the chorus so its really, really obvious and keeps recurring.

BTW, I'm with Meffy on the Wings thing.

A couple of my favorite double negatives...

Rolling Stones - Satisfaction

"I can't get no satisfaction".

Pink Floyd - Another Brick in the Wall

"We don’t need no education.
We don’t need no thought control."

In Pink Floyd's case I'm pretty sure that the mistake was meant to be ironic. Well, fairly sure. :hihi:

"[...] but yet I won't" (from a nice song by Dutch/Belgian solo act Stijn)

My favorite bad English is from Sensation's Fix (Italian Prog Rock), but I actually like it because it rides the fine line between horrible translation and brilliant surrealism.

Like in their song Strange About Your Hands:

Once I knew a man he could perform
On any tricks with his hands
The one I used to mostly like to ask
Was to magnify the sound of his guitar

The printed version of the lyrics read "...he could perform/everything with his hands" but they sang it as written above, but with the thick Italian accent and the synth/guitar/drum/bass backup it sounded about right :hihi:

Another great one by them, The Left Side of the Green:

The left side of the green
so if you'll see your life
getting closed to the end
in a screen which it is your sight
do you think you'll catch it
with your mind

 Liked the song, though.

I'm all but certain you're right, on both counts. Lots of deliberate incorrect grammar gets into music, for effect. That's legit. Wouldn't do to have a rant against regimented, soulless educational institutions sung with RP and perfect grammar. :-D [posh] Dear me, that just wouldn't be cricket. [/posh]

BONES: I hope it's a printing/publishing error that's been perpetuated... but as Millie and I were discussing this earlier, we agreed Paul has never never the master tweaker (and twister) of English that John was. With my hearing, I can't tell what he was singing; could be either way. Not my favorite song in any case. :-}

*light bulb goes on over Mef's empty li'l head*

Somebody set up us the bomb... as a song! For great justice.

I know, it wasn't originally a song. But that's got to be one of the best concentrations of weird syntax and such EVER.

Another extreme offender... possibly the worst:

Here come old flattop he come grooving up slowly
He got joo-joo eyeball he one holy roller
He got hair down to his knee
Got to be a joker he just do what he please

He wear no shoeshine he got toe-jam football
He got monkey finger he shoot coca-cola
He say "I know you, you know me"
One thing I can tell you is you got to be free
Come together right now over me

He bag production he got walrus gumboot
He got Ono sideboard he one spinal cracker
He got feet down below his knee
Hold you in his armchair you can feel his disease
Come together right now over me

He roller-coaster he got early warning
He got muddy water he one mojo filter
He say "One and one and one is three"
Got to be good-looking 'cause he's so hard to see
Come together right now over me!
