I see no transubstantiation of your claim whatsoever.

Sonar from my limited experience was overly complicated to do some simple stuff. I guess any sequencer that forces you to have both an audio and midi track for softsynths will never be to my taste. It sure is powerful though.

What do you do about a multitimbral synth where you want separate MIDI channels sent to it then? Or even a drum synth/sampler where you might want each drum to have its own patterns separated out?

The rack filters in Tracktion make both of those scenarios pretty straightforward.

... or aux channels like logic has.

And if you then decide you want to record some of those outputs to audio? Do you then have to create one audio track per output, or is it done automatically?

Yeah, I didn't like that part at first...but then you have freeze function with it. Still a pain if you change the synth...but the freeze makes up for it.

Is there a host with freeze and just the softsynth track?

...and another good thing is that way yer multi outs are set up right off the bat.

Has anyone made the tired (but completely accurate) observation that there is no 'best' sequencer, just different tools for different needs and work habits?

If not, consider it made.

If so, I will just add that I personally do my midi programming using an app that isn't even a host. Midisoft makes the most intuitive (for me, that is) notation based sequencer, so I use it to write the .mid files that eventually get imported into my host/sequencer (Tracktion).

This might seem clumsy, but if you compare it to a room full (or not full) of musicians, it is lightning fast.

Im not sure. Is this the same 'which is better thread' or a new one. I've lost track, but I might have done if its an old one... If its a new one, then I dunno. ;)

I actually bought P5 version 2, just to see what the hype was surrounding Dimension so I have the program, but I've never been able to warm up to the "1 window with everything in it" design concept. I always seem to wind up doing more scrolling and more resizing of windows than I would have to if for example, the piano roll had it's own, large window. What am I missing? Is there a way around all the scrolling and resizing?
This is an example of how what works for one doesn't always work for another. I personally prefer a one window design, but not everyone does.

I thought I'd put up a really good post earier

I'll try again.......

price....you can pay 2500 for nuendo, or you can pay 199 for tracktion.....unless you do video, that's a big gap. There are a ga-zillion choices in between and the most stable ones are probably some of the more cost effective ones.

what you use it for (mostly audio/mostly midi/combo) So if you are a home recording person, and want to record your band from time to time.......something like protools mpowered is ideal. It's not just that you can "intigrate" with so many other people, it's really optimized for audio recording. I love the midi stuff.......but it's a learning curve for synth guys who aren't used to it.

what kind of computer you have/what you are willing to spend in upgrades. HUGE! If you have 512 ram, an older processor, an older power supply..etc....you are not going to like ANY of those expensive "ooooo/ahhhhhh" hosts because they won't run. Tracktion has to be the choice in this case.......so easy......stable........and it doesn't need GOBS of ram or cpu power.

Ok........now I'll let some others fill in more blanks........I'm tired of typing.........

Exactly why I love Sonar. Multitimbral synths and samplers are so flexible to use and to control in Sonar.
